Hate to hear all of this but know we are thinking of you and your family. We have your back, if needed.

I just don't understand Identity Theft?? Someone uses another’s identity and the company who "does not" completely verify that identity before proceeding is not responsible for the loss?

Geeeez America, what part of that sounds like it's the right answer to the problem?

Now let’s get to the best part. The largest vendors offering insurance in Identity Theft are the Credit Reporting Agencies and the Lenders accepting the false identities. Doesn't anyone else see the wrong in that? They, in actuality, can create their own business by accepting fraudulent ID.

Progress energy does the same thing. They sell you line insurance against power surges. Duh??? You’re selling me power on a line that's not surge protected by your company? Why should I pay insurance for something you should be providing, a safe product?

You make perfect sense to me on this issue. We have some big ole' holes that need cementing and we should get all of them who have attributed to this stuff.

    Good evening,

This happened to a friend of mine a few years ago. It was a mess to clean up. Good luck...

Does anyone know if it worth it to get the monitoring service from the credit Bureau's? Most seem to cost around 20 a month.

I had someone claim an $8,000 charge against me and a Bill collector tried to collect it. I told them I needed proof that we are the individuals that owe the debt, six months later they still couldn't they tried one more time about 9 months later (if you pay this much we will call it even), again asked for proof, and they couldn't, I told them if they asked again or it shows up on credit reports they will be sued, never heard from them again.

I have froze all credit requests with all 4 credit agencies, and they cannot authorize credit in mine or my wife's name unless they are given specific passwords. Did this just to keep from the hassles of having to deal with identity theft.

I use Identity Advisor, its 9.99 a month. They send me quarterly credit reports and I get a letter each time there is an account opened or closed in my name.

I had no idea. Interesting reading. I thought I was pretty savvy when it came to things like this, but this is certainly a revelation to me. I just skimmed it and will go back to see if it's explained, but I wonder why they keep themselves such a secret? Thanks.

Learned about them from the North Carolina Attorney General's office when they came and made a presentation on Identity Theft at our Church last year.

My bank offers the monitoring service for free (SunTrust) for one account holder. Check with your banks. It is thru Equifax.
