We enjoy taking Amtrak to DC and then going and seeing the museums. The train in new Hill is taking the month off to get ready for the Santa trains in December.

Where does the train let off in DC and how long does the trip take? Looking into this trip in January and think that my boys would love it. They are 8 and 10.

Union Station is the stop off in DC. I haven't actually timed it, but i'd say DC is about 4.5 hours up. The ride in to DC is beautiful. the view of the capital out the left side is one of my favorite parts of the trip to PA. Especially at sunset. Its good to get off there too. Theres always a DC stop-over to switch engines (easier and less time consuming than refueling) and it usually takes about 20 minutes and you're without generator power.

Jester: I'd say that the peak times bookend the major holidays, if not encompass them completely. Last year near new years was the most packed I've ever seen the train. i left on the 28th and came back on the 4th, and both ways were completely packed to the gills. Compare that to when i traveled in mid-January the year before and the train was nearly empty. Mid summer has been great too.

i wanna take the train again now.
