Also, don'tcha think it would be a MAJOR conflict if their tried in JoCo?

Yes, which is why the JOCO DA is not going to handle the case. The venue will most likely be moved to Wake, but another county for sure.

Isn't Van Sauls the attorney right up here on Hwy. 50 at the crossroads? That's pretty close to home.

And we wonder why Johnston County has the highest death rate when it comes to teen drivers. Geez.

I'd say its pretty close to home. I grew up with Lee. I've know him since we were 5. His family is some of the nicest people you would ever meet.

You ought to read this one...

Just finished "Hell's Half Acre" written by JoCo's very own Margaret Maron. Her novel deals with these issues we face in JoCo, from development and growth, to judicial issues...

    Great read...and topical to boot.

Hatt: with you all the way on this one, my friend.

When I used to work the court room I heard many a young attorney take this oath:

I, ________________________________________, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States; so help me God.

I, ________________________________________, do solemnly and sincerely swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the State of North Carolina and to the Constitutional powers and authorities which are or may be established for the government thereof; and that I will endeavor to support, maintain and defend the Constitution of said state, not inconsistent with the Constitution of the United States, to the best of my knowledge and ability; so help me God.

I, ________________________________________, do swear that I will truly and honestly demean myself in the practice of an Attorney, according to the best of my knowledge and ability, so help me God.

Oath: either a promise or a statement of fact calling upon something or someone that the oath maker considers sacred

Had a BLET instructor/detective many years ago that went to prison for giving intel to drug dealers.

    Disgraceful and repugnant.

I will now bow down and fold up on this one and the posts I made.... My apologies for not seeing the whole picture and hold all attorneys to the defined rules put out there... My bad...

He is! I went to high school with him. He did the closing on my house last year. This really surprises me. I am beside myself. What a shame!

I was trying to take the high road. That was the first thought across my mind when I heard it. Seems like there's a separate system of justice for the "haves', the "have nots', and the "have mores."

And imho this applies in many more systems as well.

Looks fishy to me. There are some much older lawyers out there that have been playing the game a lot longer. Where are they in all this? Couldn't the DA figure it out and stop it without the SBI? I don't want to make excuses, but it may just be a case of "that's the way we've always done it" sloppy work. I know two of these lawyers well enough to say that I can't believe they would knowingly and blatantly do something this dishonest.

i was wondering about the older attorneys and why they have never been caught. its always been know that if you had enough money, you could go to a certain attorney in Smithfield and your DWI would disappear.

You know, it's anecdotal because I don't know who the attorney was, but we have an acquaintance (wouldn't call them a friend) who has been arrested at least three times that we know of who has never gotten more than a slap on the wrist and continues to have a license, we never could figure it out. Johnston County too. :?

Not with the heavy conflict of interest, considering the DA's office may have been involved, as well as, any number of court employees.
