A quick note...Please keep the families of these guys in your prayers (as well as those charged) because I am sure some of their parents (relatives & friends) were just as shocked as some who don't know these attorneys. This incident may affect the families/friends emotionally as well as financially and their hearts will pain for their child or relative while "the talk" and "stares" keep the public busy.
Also, as with most highly publicized "happenings", we (the public) don't know both sides or the whole story. I am not suggesting that these guys are innocent but it is common for us to take a strong stance against "the bad guys"...sometimes jumping to conclusions based on personal experience, beliefs or the latest episode of a TV series. Though our response in judging others may be "normal", I urge us all to remember not only the well being of this great county in which we reside, but the family/relatives/friends that are being "punished" as well. We all are somewhat "educated" on basic laws (or at least we understand the difference between right and wrong)
...no one can be "more guilty" than another....wrong is wrong!!!

It is only when we "act as judges" that we can make "poor judgements" and most of us can plead guilty to that!

They have been found guilty by a court of law. So I don't really need to know the whole story - and apparently the judge did not believe it anyways.

If they had in fact been taught that this was the way to process DUIs, then their "teachers" would have gone down as well. But, no mention of them - huh?

since they were found guilty by the grand jury, do they still get a trial?

This is correct, I was addressing the legality of the purported actions, which presumed those actions had been proved. They have not been tried nor has their been a finding of guilt for any of those charged. However, IF any attorney followed the actions indicated in the charges they do know it is against the law per their legal education, while a clerk would not have had such a detailed education. Nothing absolves the guilt, but the more knowledge of the action being illegal the greater the impact of the crime, IMO.

We do have to wait to see how many of these charged are convicted of the crimes for which they are charged since there has been no defense presented at this time.

The Grand Jury only finds whether there was enough probability to hold a trial, sio they will get a trail provided they do not take a plea bargain. It is also a possiblity that the NC Bar will have separate proceedings to determine the appropriate action on their ability to practice law even if any are found not guilty by the court.

Sorry. My sympathy is for those people who trusted these lawyers and paid a lot of coin for services that were rendered inappropriately. Yet, given the background of these people, there was no one to whom they could complain. Hispanic or not, they didn't deserve to get screwed over by these greedy lawyers. Based on the indictment, and because of the standing these attorneys are supposed to have at the bar of justice, I say disbar them now.

And before I get flamed for not granting these lawyers their due process, remember that the defense lawyers didn't provide it for their clients, nor did the ADA and clerk for theirs-us!

Yeah but these people you speak of.. didn't they get off the charges, why feel bad for them??? Or maybe I'm missing a little here. Will they be re-tried on the charges they had dropped or discharged. If not they don't need sympathy... they got what they paid for... charges dropped...

There is a possibility that the cases could be set aside, and go to trial. unlikely, but still...If I'd padi those vultures 16oo bucks...and then they come back and ask for more, AFTER the case is supposedly settled, I'd have some fired defense lawyer "six", garnished with some crooked ADA salad and court clerk dessert.

No sympathy for these greedy goniffs.

Perhaps I misread it, but my recollection was that after the cases had been settled (according to the people quoted who paid)..they were contacted again, after the paperwork was filed and asked to pay more....and it that isn't lowlife bloodsucking extortion, I don't know what is. The people who paid were victimized by the very people they paid to protect them.

The only people I feel bad for are the families of the people who are now being investigated and the families of the idiots who drank and drove and then because of that crap decision paid a bunch of money to another criminal. Money that their family could have used for other things. No, I don't feel bad for the crooked lawyers and clerks OR the fools who were drinking and driving and then lost money on the deal. Sorry.

why did the drunks lose money??? I know they paid the crooked lawyers and all but they didn't have a record on drivers license and insurance rates, loss of license and school so they probably made out good and on the cheap comparative to what it could've been..

Maybe, but maybe if they did lose a little money on the deal they might learn a small lesson about what they did. However, I'm not so naive as to think that might happen. No sympathy either way.

now if they bring back the cases, but not sure if thats an option... either way they were wrong to drive and deserved to lose something...

The lawyers did exactly what they were paid to do....get the best outcome for their client, which is a dismissal. You don't go to a lawyer to get convicted.
