some peoples orthodox readings of the bible can lead them to believe that the only true medicine is prayer, and that it denies god to use medicine. we had a debate about that a few months ago involving a family who refused to treat their daughters diabetes through medicine, relying only on prayer.

Edit: I'm not sure if orthodox is the right word to use there... but i don't have a better one right now.

Nope, very different. In general Christian Scientist are Christian but most Scientology followers are not.

As much as i try to respect all religions, Scientology is the one i have the hardest time with. Its main teaching (Dianetics) based off of the fictional religion used in previous L. Ron Hubbard books. Also its hard for me to ignore that before writing dianetics L. Ron Hubbard famously said that the easiest way to make millions would be to make a religion. Members have to pay money to worship it, and it has "ranks" like a branch of the military. The only way to improve your rank is to increase your worship level, which involves paying more money.

We live in a global economy. People visit the US from everywhere, even countries where these diseases are not irradicated. I would be afraid to visit a public bathroom without my immunizations! And I would sure hate to cause my child's death by failing to give them the same protection.

On another note, I did not read the entire thread, but didn't Clif say several days ago in a thread he started that he was not posting here anymore? He seems to be everywhere!

Did she really think 4042ers weren't going to debate this?

I believe that this "I don't want mine vaccinated" thing is a trend...a fad. A desire to be part of a chic "in" crowd. Those parents who participate think it makes them superior to other parents, and they tend to be smug as all get out on the subject. They brag about their decision any chance they get, and look down their noses on parents who do have their children vaccinated, and insinuate that such parents are horrid and abusive and don't care what "toxins" they are putting into their children.

Afterall, if you have your kid vaccinated, you won't get invited to the trendy play party given by the non-vaccinating mother for her kid with the measles or chicken pox, since the purpose of the party is to invite other non-vaccinated kids so they too can catch the disease and suffer its affects in a controlled environment. And if you don't vaccinate your child and force them to get sick, then you get to be host of your own trendy germ party for other trendy kids and their parents. How bourgeoisie.

These parents who take their children to a party to play with infected children for the express purpose of making them sick and making them endure the discomfort of the illness, are the ones guilty of child abuse.

Lived in San Francisco for many years and I don't think any of the gays I knew/know would find offense to that picture. I found the picture funny and I would think others would as well. Nothing that should be banned. Sure they dress strange to me in certain areas of San Francisco but it is a free world. I think a picture of a male in leather pants without butt checks would be more inappropriate and true of some gay men I have seen.

Going back to the subject of the Thread. I would guess most of those gays are vaccinated from diseases that are available.

How many people you going to put on your ignore list? Just wondering. I really hope you take Ken off because we used to have great discussions and debates with both of you in the same conversation. And now Nevil. Anyhow, your decision.

    Everybody.. stand back..

I agree with you 100% Mags. NO 200, wait 500%!!

Seen it myself, on the elite breastfeding forum I used to frequent. Little witty jokes such as , "Oh - can I send over so and so's sippy cup? lol" or "Hey, we're only an hour from you! Guess it times for that get together we've been talking about!"

    IDIOTS.

I agree, child abuse. Why you would intentionally subject your child to that is beyond me.
