Yes she did say she was going to. But first, might as well post to 4042, I mean not like anyone has ever died from an appendix rupturing, right?

I'm just saying that the first thing would be to call the doctor, not post a thread on 4042. But, hey, if that's the way y'all want to care for your children, that's fine with me.

    Last post in this thread.

Well, thank goodness for small miracles. Nothing like kicking someone when they are down. 8)

26 minutes after her first post she was already waiting for a call from the doctor, it doesn't sound like she was taking her sweet time. I've been there before, and I know how it is when you're sitting waiting for a dr to call. I'd come on here, start a thread while waiting for a dr to call so I could kill 2 birds with one stone, as they say...And my son has woken up before, quite a few times actually, with horrible pains, and I was terrified thinking it was appendicitis, not knowing what to do, came close to taking him to the ER, but didn't. It always ended up just being constipation. But at the time it seemed like the worst thing in the world, so you never know.

I would like to hear how the little girl is doing, I hope she's ok and hope to hear from soccermom soon...

The previous post reminded me of a young teenager who was spending the week with us because his family had moved out of state after he and my younger son became friends. He was 14 or 15 at the time and told me he was in severe pain and needed to go to the hospital. Being that old I took him at his word and off we went ...60+ mph in a 35 zone past a deputy as he moaned louder and louder. Once at the ER he went into the exam room by himself as we were not relatives. It turned out he had been constipated for days and had not said anything. The changes in routine moving and then coming back for the week had caused him to become very stopped up. I was lucky the deputy did not follow us in or he would have probably taken my license then and there ... once he stopped laughing. Sometimes things are not as bad as they seem and sometimes they are worse .....

We went to the hospital right after the dr called. He said it could be her appendix, or she could be constipated. So he said to go in. She wasn't in excruciating(sp) pain, but it was uncomfortable pain. We got in the ER and they checked her, took blood, and said it was appendicitis, so she had surgery. She is doing better, and had a good Christmas. Thank you for your posts everyone.

    So glad to hear this!

As usual, I'm late chiming in, but as I was reading I was thinking about the blood test.

For other moms....when you think there is a chance (due to location of pain, fever, etc) that your child may be suffering from appendicitis, there is a blood test that can be done in the doctor's office that can confirm it. No need to wait for the pain to get worse, and the doctor's office should be glad to take some blood and do the test.

At the very least, the doctor can often tell if the problem is constipation also...and prescribe a remedy.

Sounds like Soccermom knows that nothing is worse for a kidlet than a hurting tummy, and theres no reason to prolong finding out what it is.

Glad to hear all is well, and sorry about some of the crappy responses you got here. There is absoultely NOTHING wrong with asking a large group of people for their opinons on matters such as this, there is no doubt in my mind that your post was in addition to other actions you were taking, and it helps to talk to other people when you are stressed and unsure.

I agree and have had some of the best responses here as could be. Colinmama really helped my daughter and me at a time when the doctors and I were at our wits end. My daughter was becoming so weak that even her team of doctors were unsure if a stay in the hospital would be the solution. Seems one of her medications was reacting totally harmful in her body. Since that time we have found many other teens with the same symptoms.

I don't think Clif was trying to be mean or anything, I really think he was making a statement that he thought would help and he might have worded it wrong. While I have my moments with him I have yet to find him to be actually harmful to anyone in regards to something like this. Just my opinion as I cannot read minds.

So glad you updated us and things are better.

Had the same thing happen to my son in Nov, however it took two trips to the ER. The Dr did the 1 leg knee jump and since his his little serve ADHA self could jump they sent us home. He stayed home for a week and then back again with surgury about 3 hours after confirmming it was appendix.(they almost busted, dr said they were the biggest in anyone under 10 that he had ever seen.) Hope you had Dr. Adamson, he is great, I think he told me he was on call this week at Wake. We are still having to see him, we have had complications, losts of them and we are still not heeled. (in the 10% of of not heeling) this has been our luck this year. Good luck on your daughter's recovery, hope she made it home before Christmas, we were there a week.
