DH and I will always stop and rescue a turtle crossing the road, atleast make sure he gets across and put off to the side in the direction he was heading. If you don't put them in the direction they were going, they will just go back into the street to attempt to go that way again. Twice I have come across large Allligator Snapping Turtles in the road... they have an alligator looking tail, and that head comes out and whips around way fast to bite you! One time a girl had stopped that was with some environmental dept. and she and my DH were able to get him in the back of her pick-up so she could relocate him. The other time, I was coming home from work and there was one in the road by an old golf course, so I stopped and was trying to grab him using an old coat that was in my car, then a guy stopped who happened to have steel-toe work boots on, so he just nudged the turtle across the road.. he was a very mean turtle.. so much as looked at him and that head snapped around with mouth ready to bite someone!!! I love turtles though.. we've had a few in our yard since we have a creek out behind our house, some small and some good sized ones. It's always a treat for the neighborhood kids to see one when theres one in the yards.

I hate to see one squished, we make every effort to get them out of the road without endangering us or someone else. I'm not going to get hit myself trying to save one. But DH has gotten them off of 70, Covered Bridge as well as 42, they don't have much of a chance of getting across any one of those!

    How's the turtle doing?

I looked at that website and it got me wanting one again, but DH says NO WAY! LOL

So I guess that solves that dilemma....

He's doing fantastic, as far as I can tell. We got him a little "company" this weekend, two dwarf guarami's. So far they are getting along well. I will probably get another turtle later on, from that website. I want to wait till it cools off a little, I'd hate for it to die in this heat during shipping.

    Thanks for asking! 8)

Missed this! Sorry, nope, don't have another one yet. He's growing so fast, will probably have to get a bigger tank before I get another turtle. Don't want to crowd them too much.

It's interesting looking! Wonder how long it will live? Turns out, my little guy is also a red-eared slider too, looks like those, but his eyes don't bug out, that is part of the genetic defect. Mine doesn't have the red patch behind his eye either, it's yellow, which made it tough to figure out exactly what he was.
