When we had smoke in the area from the stump dump we received a call at about 1:00 am advising us of this problem. We can see and smell smoke.
However no officials made calls to advise us to boil our water. We can't see or smell coliform bacteria. It would be best to error on the safe side in this situation. Advising the media was not sufficient notification. The Town of Clayton advises that they contacted North Carolina officials about the water situation and this official advised them not to alert citizens by the call method. Who is this official? Why wouldn't the State of North Carolina want the citizens to be aware of this situation?
Thankfully In this instance the 2nd test revealed no coliform bacteria and the boil water alert was canceled. I would like to receive a phone call every time the Town of Clayton issues a "boil water" order. No exceptions!

We get our water bill from Aqua Water, which is from the county water. I'm assuming we don't need to worry about boiling effect?

My SIL received a telephone call from the Town of Clayton yesterday (Wednesday) advising that the "water alert" had been lifted. We did not get a call. It is interesting that the Town of Clayton did not notify citizens of the problem by telephone but elected to notify them that the alert was cancelled. Go figure!
Did anyone else that gets water from the Town of Clayton get this call?

I remember when they did this. If they could use the system then, why wouldn't they use it when there is a potentially serious health hazard? I'd rather be awaken for that then for a stump fire that poses no hazard to me.
