Just curious, why doesn't the GCAA do fund raisers, etc? When i ran football and baseball programs in VA, we always did fundraisers to cover our costs. i was involved in programs who were 40 yrs old and the cost of participating was 1/2 of what they charge at GCAA and we involved all the kids in fundraising every year instead of demanding money from the government and raising folk's taxes? Just curious why the programs down here are so different and charge out the arse for kids to play and do not try to raise funds on their own.
What is the early voting schedule? I would like to go this weekend, but I doubt they have it for the small bond decisions.
YES, a big second to the CROWDS abound 2nd/3rd streets & the BOE. They are open till 1pm. No Idea where to tell you to try to park. But PLEASE VOTE! - K
Where to start Kaci... Actually, what I could say on this subject is better left unsaid I believe. Suffice it to say, back when CAA ran the concession stand to raise money and keep the registration costs lower there was a GREAT deal of strife from the parents regarding the need for teams to provide a parent volunteer for half of their games. Further, running the concession stand only caused even more hardship on the board members due to the added amount of work involved in just keeping the place going. Based on parent feedback, the desire to pay $5-10 more per registration vs working in the stand, the CAA stopped it's practice and the GCAA never started it. Other fundraiser were also tried, raffles, camps, sales, etc... They tended to produce little revenue for a lot of work. Further, there was a great desire to not have the kids sell stuff for the local athletic association due to the already overloaded schedule of selling good coming out of the school system itself. That said, I'm sure the BoD for GCAA would gladly work with anyone willing to organize and oversee just about any type of fundraiser, but I dare say the BoD's have little extra time in their already overloaded schedule which is fairly consumed in just keeping the sports organized and moving.
Kaci... For one, the CGAA never begged the County Commissioners to give them money. Far from it. This is what happens when a county does not have a Parks & Rec department. Now as far as the CGAA prices go, lets look at soccer and other area programs. East Wake Soccer - $60 for ages 5-8, $70 for 9-15 CASL - $85 for 5-6, $95 for 7-8, $110 for 9-10, $105 for 11-18 Fuquay Soccer - $65.00 but a $40.00 payment is required to join the FVAA Garner Soccer is the same as CASL CGAA is $60 for 4-6, $65 for 7-10 and $70 for 11-14 and they just went up $10 because of joining the NCYSA There are other programs out there as well but i could not find anything on the web for them in the short time i did this post and please do remember, the CGAA does not get any kind of government funding for their programs. It is all self supported from registration fees and sponsor fees. On to what Artis said....you know....it has been reported that within a 5 mile radius of the 40/42 bridge, there are over 5000 houses. Maybe that needs to be verified by someone but since its somewhat related to what i do for a living and i trust the source, ill go with it. This past spring season (that just ended this past weekend) for soccer, there were over 450 kids to sign up. Thats about the average number for a spring season..a smidge low but around average. I believe there were 33 total soccer teams from the 4 year old age group up to the 13-14. You would think that that would mean the CGAA had 33 different soccer coaches right? Nope. Some coaches, and more than a handful, coached 2 teams so i would say that the CGAA had around 25 total coaches for 33 teams. This does not include asst. coaches and parent volunteers but 25 head coaches. Thats out of 450 kids that signed up. Factor in a percentage of parents who had more than 1 kid playing and if you remove them, you might have 375 unique parent/kids in the soccer program. And it was all the CGAA could do to get those 25 coaches and i think there might have been 6-8 CGAA board members that ended up coaching as well. That drops it down to 17-18 parents/coaches who were not involved with the CGAA in any way other than being a coach. 17-18 coaches out of a total of 450 kids and that is just for soccer. Some soccer coaches also coached baseball at the same time and many also coach basketball and softball. The work being done out there is done by a very small margin of people compared to the number of people who come through "the doors" each week. Fundraisers, other activities to raise money and all that...great ideas! I know the GCAA board discusses that ever meeting. Know what? Just not enough people to make it happen like it needs to happen.
http://www.efundingalliance.com/ Lot's of businesses have signed up to give parents a discount for the listed services. The CGAA just came on board! YEAH! How it works is... you (the parent) says "Hey I found out about you thru the CGAA", I (my service) donates $100 for every "done deal". ***(all services donate different amounts)*** Awesome way for these groups to get some cashola and promote the e-funding alliance!
Low voter turnout so far No surprise, but when I voted at C3 this morning around 7:30am, I was only #9. Please vote today!
