I see. So by what you are saying is that sins are just mistakes and carry no consequence; being saved or being born again is just figure of speech some use to explain commitment?

How is that accomplished, is it by self-improvement courses; 10-12 step programs?

I can do that as a Buddhist.

Why should I be/feel condemned as long as your message isn't narrow?

Can't I have forgiveness and still be a Buddhist?

    About what?

And because you say you love me, I will become a Christian? What else do you have to offer that could persuade me away from my Buddhist heritage? Is there something in your message that is different from mine other than the name Jesus?

there's a 3 person commercial going on now...you know, one of those testimonial type where two or three people appear to be chatting?

"i think we've run this one through the ringer" says the person who joined yesterday and has two posts

    This Thread's Still Going...Going...Going...

Yeah...this thread is still going, but I think it's turned down a very far path from whether or not C3 was going to reply back to a reasonably legitimate complaint about noise caused by construction work as early as 5 or 6 AM....and even the "loud" worship music, etc.

Funny how discussions can go off track. That's how life is....very unpredictable at times, huh?

I guess I better get going now. Just was checking in to see if there was anymore about C3 and the noise factor.

Yes! Time for a New Forum???

I "second" the new forum idea...it does seem as though there is some interest here even though it was brought up about the C3 Cafe/Bookstore, etc. deal. Still interesting.

This time I am going...I don't know how to get away from the computer and it's already 3 AM...good thing I'm not doing any outside work! (Just kidding.) ;)

Back on page 38, the orig. poster, Peppercorns, posted that she got in contact with someone at C3, that's why I was suprised this thread was still going. The orig. complaint was being looked into.

Yes, discussions go WAY off track here, it wouldn't be 4042 if they didn't! LOL

You know, you can start a new thread any time, and give it whatever "topic" or "subject" line you want. I really don't see the need for another new forum.

I've heard(somewhere)that many men(and women) will read the Bible and that not one will understand it,,and do you know what? After reading here
I believe it,,,People, just get you a copy of the 10 commandments and hang it
on your refrigerator(from the way a lot of the posters in here talk about eating I know you'll see it there:mrgreen: )and just follow those rules and everything will be ok,I promise,

Sorry Raven, but there is no one, other than the One, who can follow the 10 commandments perfectly. Therefore, everyone needs the One. :)

What? Just TRY to follow them then,do you think that would help

    I wrote
READ those commandments, don't you agree if everyone TRIED TO follow them,(and I really couldn't care less what branch of religion you are),
don't you think that it would help the world and the people in it get along better?,or is that concept over your head ;)

    Ormly,
My post about what the church teaches was a high level summary of what we believe. It wasn't meant to explain every facet of the Christian walk.

If you are interested, we offer a Discovery 201 class that discusses all of things that you have brought up in a simple and understandable way. The next one is scheduled for Sunday, April 15 at 10:45am. You don't have to be a member or a Christian to participate in this class. Its a safe place to ask questions. Its good to ask questions rather than just follow blindly.

As for some of my statements, I tried not to use too many churchy terms that some people may not understand. I was just trying to put in everyday terms that everyone can understand.

Gotta run. Thanks for your posts and questions.

 No, it wasn't over my head. Yes absolutely, we should try to follow the 10 commandments! If everyone did, the world would be a much better place, I agree.
But, that being said, I just hope that people don't think that by trying to follow them they can ever be "good enough" to get into heaven, because that will never happen.

But,,,I bet more people that DID follow those rules would get IN than the ones that DIDN'T follow them:-D

Before I post again I need you all to know I am not a Buddhist. I don't believe I said I was but the implication was there in my questions and replies. If I have offended anyone, please forgive me. My reasons have to do more with why you all believe C3 is such a great church attraction, irrespective of opinions concerning the noise and inconveniences of construction.

Is there any chance of a drive through with the coffee shop? While we're at it, how about a bagel shop?

I love philosophy and theology. We don't have these discussions enough on this forum.

    Yes, just forgive yourself.

But the way Christianity works is you have to first understand that you can't work your way into heaven (enlightenment) by right living, right thinking, etc like you can with Buddhism. Christians believe that its not within your own power to save yourself. An imperfect person cannot make themselves perfect ...or else they wouldn't be imperfect to begin with. Christians believe that humans are helplessly caught in a trap and cannot end our own suffering. You have to humbly accept the forgiveness that is offered through grace ...not works.
But good is not the same as perfect.
Sin is imperfection. According to the Bible, the consequences are death. Eternal spiritual death. Eternal darkness. Solitary confinement for eternity. My personal take is that the universe cannot be in perfect balance if imperfection is not corrected somehow. There has to be a counterweight. Jesus, a perfect person who didn't owe anything, paid the price. He was the counterweight.

On a side note, I believe that all the unknowns in theology, cosmology, and physics are all related and that light is more complicated and relevant to theology than any of us realizes.
