Haven't been in a situation that big before, but on a smaller scale I have. I also have occasionally let the pride shown through and have regretted it.
He is available for weddings and bar mitzvas if the price is right ...... http://www.washingtonspeakers.com/speakers/speaker.cfm?SpeakerID=6592 and a book of poetry too.... http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-03-11/sully-is-a-poet/
So you wouldn't take the money? And there is nothing wrong with being proud of something you have done unless you took it to an extreme.
Can't say for sure, but I would hope I wouldn't, especially if I am already bringing in about $100,000.00 a year as Scully is.
You should read about Sgt. Alvin York, and his refusal to sign the endorsements for products based on his actions on the battlefield. http://agilewriter.com/Biography/SergeantYork.htm York was inundated with many offers to lend his name to commercial endorsements, but he refused them all, saying, "Uncle Sam’s uniform ain’t for sale."
1. Where does it say anything about weddings and bar mitzvas? The Washington Speakers Bureau may just be the most respected speakers bureau in the country. He's not in bad company there. 2. The daily beast? Is that a reputable news source? P.S. A children's version? That's just as laughable as a book of poetry. Oh don't worry...I'm sure the Obama poetry will soon hit the shelves.
That is from another ad I heard offering the chance to hear him and others speak for $20.00 an office regardless of the number of people in that office. I assume they would be "bundled" into larger more profitable groups of multiple offices, but I am not sure of that. The company was no the point, but the marketing was. The author is an industry source, so on the book issue, it should be.
I'm sorry, but isn't it the American Way to make lemons out of lemonade?!? He's not the Shamwow guy for heaven's sake. I am absolutely dismayed! Wanna talk sellout? I saw the guy from Kiss selling Dr. Pepper over the weekend. Now that's TACKY!
That is a borderline stupid comparision Wayne. One is a commercial pilot and one is a Soldier.. I see no connection of the two whatsoever.
I heard??? I assume???? Who is this knucklehead filling in for Wayne??? Surely this isn't the original Wayne.... :jester:
IMO, the airline pilot demonstrated incredible skill in the face of likely death and saw that no one was killed in the crash landing in the river. In his position, he may be a humble man but if his testimony is desired for public speeches, who are we to say that his time is should be free? Doesn't mean we have to pay to hear it or buy a book he may decide to write. Does his acts make him a hero? Well, he did save the lives of those onboard, however he accounted for one of those lives. He is a hero regardless. In a way, I see the ship captain as an even greater hero. If the story is true, the ship captain told his crew to lock themselves in their rooms and he sacrificed himself to be taken hostage even if that put him in peril. The ship captain--knowing the likelihood of capture anyway--told his crew that it was he that would be most desireable to the pirates and surrendered himself for the sake of his crew. To me, the greatest of heros are ordinary people who go above and beyond their regular call of duty to perform selfless deeds.
I can believe you would not see any connection unless it was made by one of your chosen ones ..... then it could go past borderline and well into stupid.
Well you are one of my chosen ones... I look up to you for any and all info needed around here. Your track record speaks for itself here, I still don't know if you've ever been wrong here.
Here is another Hero http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/passenger_lands_plane Passenger lands plane in FL after pilot dies.
So the Bar Mitzvahs and Birthday parties was just your attempt at humor since you had heard about offices and not these other events, right? And where did you hear this ad? And $20 per office regardless of the number of people Do you have a source for that info?
Hey you all may be on to something here, maybe all the presidents should do the same when the term is up go home shut up and don't write any books or do any speaking engagements... Why profit off the highest office in this Country, I mean they made good money and are well taken care of so just disappear and not try to make a few extra dollars, even if there are those pursuing you to do it.
