Fact is this is still a child. I feel there should have been a better way to handle this than by putting a child behind bars. As far as I know 16 is still a child. They are not old enough to buy cigarettes or beer or able to vote but can be put in jail that sounds harsh to me. But yet a 16 yr old and someone 18 or over dating or otherwise the 18yr old or over can be arrested for indecent liberties with a minor. Minor same thing as child to me!! Sorry this is a public forum and like everyone else just sounding off. Just seems it could be handled another way besides Jail!
Jail was a waste of time and tax money. Plus now this unruly child and lack luster parent get 15 mins of fame. The parent should have been called to come get the child, the child suspended from school and move on. Instead we are all now talking about what, a child acting ghetto and getting attention for it. Teacher/principal/mom should just beat the child on the back side. But then our soft culture would cry and say that the world is to blame and that we should give her a lot of money for being ghetto. I read that in Wis. they are toying with the idea of sending teachers to school with fire arms. I like that idea. any one else???
what choice did they have? there was a fight going on, and she was provoking further violence, the principal had NO means of control outside of the police officer stationed at the school. it went as far as it needed to go, and no further in my opinion. this is the result of that, whats your point? now the parent is dealing directly with the police because of failure to dicipline her child. I hate how WRAL is framing this article. even in their titile they are getting people pumped up for a violation of freedom of speech, when in reality what we're seeing is police doing what they need to do to prevent voilence at a school from escalating further. Also, i was amused greatly by the statement of the mother for some reason that quote put this clip from family guy into my head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY0uhfM8qsY i mean did she really expect the principal to shout "TIME OUT! I HAVE TO CALL YOUR MOMS!"
My opinion. If the parent had raised her child right, the situation, as it unfolded, wouldn't have happened.
I have to respectfully disagree with you there, a sixteen year old knows right from wrong, or SHOULD. You get your driver's license at sixteen, you can be charged as an adult if you commit a crime. Sixteen is definately old enough to know better in my opinion.

\ Jeepers! I'm flattered! I have my own groupie! It's the picture of me line dancing that got to you Mohammed?
you have a total of 68 posts, going through them and finding the stupid/racist ones is about as hard as going through the ocean and finding a fish. dont flatter yourself.
You know, I have been coming off and on to 4042's discussion forum for years and it never ceases to amaze me how it always ends up in name calling. I think the point is lost when y'all get like this.......
I agree! Let this be a leason to the young lady. There are constructive ways of conducting yourself and she will need to learn them. I don't feel that she should have this infraction as a permanent record though.
The mom says"I feel like they should have called me before it even escalated. Before it got that far, I should have been called," she said." Now how in the world could the principal have predicted that Shaniqua was going to swear profusely before it actually happened? Once the police detain someone, there are all sorts of legalities that come into play. They can't just go around handcuffing people, and then say "if you promise to be nice we'll let you go". The ACLU and NAACP would be all over that. The bottom line is that she has no respect for authority, and that's okay ...but its going to make for a difficult life. Just ask Cynthia McKinney. Try going down every grocery isle and saying really loudly "F!@#, these prices are too high!". You'd be arrested, and I'd be glad to help the police drag your butt to the car. 12, 14, 16, or 32 years old, doesn't matter to me.

She probably would have forgotten the whipping within a year, hopefully her trip to jail will be a life lesson.
Me too,can you say corporal punishment? A good azz whipping never hurt anyone Actually I like a good azz whoopping ! But I feel exspell her from school and make her mommy watch the little brat for a while! As far as jail she needed to be there.Let her see her future if she dont straighten up.Its not like she was there long enough for someone to make her there B**** I am sure her mommy got her out as soon as she heard.
All I can say is that it is amazing what one night in jail can teach you, I think the principal gave her a chance to calm down and she chose not to. She wanted to act like an adult, she'll have to accept the consequences of being one.
Well I can tell ya'll that if it were one of my daughters acting like that they had better be praying that the cops took them to jail. But then again my girls have been raised to respect authority.
