I'm the bad guy. I called signalboosters yesterday to learn more about their company. I'm trying to make a decision soon because this is my husband's Christmas present. The signalboosters guy said he lives out near Durham - so I didn't want him wasting a trip coming to my house until I am certain this is the best route. I told him I had posted his info out on this site - looking for the GOOD and the BAD concerning his company & whatever else I could learn about cell phone repeaters/amplifiers. I told him I wasn't going to make any decisions until I'd had time to do more research ... including asking the folks on the 4042.com site for advice. I'd feel pretty guilty if I had him drive out from Durham, test his equipment at my house - and then even if everything seemed to work great - I sent him away without having the equipment installed because I still wasn't sure this was the best answer. I just want to make sure this stuff is better than what I can buy on eBay or from Sprint before I spend the money or waste anyone’s time. The SignalBoosters installation fee seems a little steep - but that's just my opinion. The things I see on eBay are comparably priced - but I'm assuming they come with installation instructions. It may be worth the money to have one of these things installed professionally ... I just don't really know what is entailed. I'm fairly certain the SignalBoosters guy doesn't know blus. However, I was planning on calling the guy blus recommended for advice also ... even though after reading through blus' friend's site - it looks like they mostly deal with commercial stuff. I'm also planning on calling a couple of the regular eBay advertisers ... to find out what they have to say. In any case ... I was the bad guy who mentioned 4042.com to SignalBoosters.
I agree that the SignalBooster guy shouldn't have posted his info twice. I don't think he's ever been on a discussion board before. Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes. He seems like a really nice guy on the phone. I don't think he was meaning to seem obnoxious.
Melynda, we just switched from Sprint/Nextel (vomit) toAlltel and LOVE it. Have not dropped one call, recieved all of my calls, etc... The phones we got were LG8600 (about $200ea).
I had grrrrrrrreat coverage/signal with Sprint before I renewed my contract and got a new phone (after I smashed the other one in my tailgate). Now, it sucks. I did get an LG (for free, with an additional line) - is this a better phone than a Sanyo? My last one was a Sanyo - the first picture phone Sprint came out with - but it was awesome. Now, I can't stick my head in the fridge, go in the laundry room, or unload the DW without the call being dropped.
First of all, thanks Melynda for throwing me a rope....I will try to pull myself out of the mess I made last night. anything that I typed that sounded disrespectful, last night, was never intended that way. Please accept my apologies if anyone read me wrong. FYI.... Improving your cell experience is sometimes not as simple as switching caririers.... 2 neighbors with exactly the same cell service can have very different signal quality ( results ) due to topography, trees, and building materials. In the same respect, my equipment has done wonders for one house/business and not nearly as well for the structure next door, with the same service, because the signal is being blocked more at one location than at another.....topography, trees, building material.... That is why, doing a demo, when possible is a good idea prior to installing anything The key to "indoor range" with SOHO kits is the signal that the DONOR or outside antenna can see...and feed the amplifier. The stronger that signal, the better indoor range you will see. Open floorplans also allow signal to travel better compared to floorplans with small rooms and lots of hallways. So in closing, before you go and sign a 2 yr contract with a service that works well for your friend, make sure it does the same for you in your house
