My emails to you kept getting kicked back... (???) Thanks so much, I havent gotten up there, but I will tomorrow. The feathered kids (Fids) are doing great. We have a bad bought of bacteria infections going on from a new bird, so we have a few on antibiotics... but all is well. Thanks again for the goodies.
LJK, strange that your emails to me kept bouncing -- I checked my spam filters and mail controls and all seems to be in proper working order. But just to make sure, I just now added a new category to my online address book and put your email address in there so hopefully your mails won't bounce anymore. Try emailing me again and see if it works ok? Anyhoo, I'm relieved to hear that your Fids are okay....whew! What a close call! Also don't forget to take care of YOU during all your hard work with the Fids! Take care and God Bless! Abundant Blessings! Kim Carter; ELCICERONE@aol.com
ljk, What organization are you fostering for? I foster one dog at a time for the JCAPL, and they provide all the supplies and pay the vet bills. Funds come from adoption fees, donations and fund raisers. Seems to me, if you're going to donate your time, space and love, they could help you out a little with the cost. Snuff
I actually run the foster program for the SPCA of Wake....they do provide everything. I also foster for 3R Raleigh rodent rescue... But on the side (on my own) I do 'other' animal rescue. I take in Sugar gliders and birds etc... it is just because of my connections through the shelter and animal control that people sort of get my number or show up on my door step (literally) and I cant say no. I love all critters and love getting them healthy, happy and to a permanent home. This year alone, I am up to $700 in vet bills and it is only Feb. I need to go ahead and get my non profit paperwork done and have a fundraiser.
God bless you for all the good work you're doing. I told the JCAPL that my limit for fostering is one dog, and sometimes that is difficult, like now that I have to carry a 52 lb'er up and down stairs everytime he has to pee. I can't imagine taking on the load you have! Whether your paper work is done or not, you ARE an orgaization. Keep up the good work, Snuff
Hey ljk, found a wonderful home for "little boy" (the ex-plucker). He lives with my son and family now and their other little cockatiel which they thought was a boy. Wrong, trust me, "little boy" is very fertile and their other cockatiel is definitely a girl:lol::lol:
Parrot groups/recues I have read the whole thread and I think it's great that you help parrots in need, I have done that in past as well, when I lived up in MI, I did it for 3 yrs up there and volunteered my time as well in a 501 (c) (3) rescue up there. I learned alot while I was there. Right now I'm just owned by my Congo grey/Neo, and my Blue crown conure/ paulie, parakeet/critter, Parrotlet/conner and my cockatiel/Mo..these are my babies, no rehomes and they never will be rehomes if I can help it. It takes alot of love and time and patients to take on rehomes. I have a yahoo group NC-exotic-bird-owners@yahoogroups.com that I have started back in 2004, I have members that are breeders, rescues and just pet owners. I have made great friends on there and I think you ladys would like it there as well..learn how to save money on making toys and just chatting about normal everyday life as well. Good luck to you in the rescues that you have helped I think it's great!
I got a few of mine off of ebay as well RAR cages, I have heard from a few people that the gowers cages fall apart and chip..not safe for the birds if your looking for long term use or if you got one that is a chewer. But, for something fast, they would do..or to use outside in nice weather for the birds to get fresh air, but this is what I have heard just from others that have gotten their cages, that she makes..I have never gotten one..I have looked at them and they are nice..still in the 400 to 600 price rang if you looking for a macaw cage. Just my two cents on the cages, cheaper isn't always better. But, better then nothing.
I finally got down to pick up the stuff... thank you so much! The assortment is wonderful and all of it will be put to good use!
