Perhaps you should sell one of your decent vehicles and/or move to a less costly nice house. Not trying to rag on you for being a little down on your luck but some of your circumstance appears to be based on choice.

You both are horrible people! How dare you! Do you know how much guts this woman has to write this?
Would you feel better if she was driving around in an "unsafe" car to put her kids at risk?
Would you feel better if she was living in a drug infested trailer park?
    How dare both of you!
She's not asking for a new couch, or a Plasma TV, she's asking for toys for her kids!
My Lord, the woman has MS!
I don't wish any harm on anyone, but if one of you two ever came into a bad situation, and became down on your luck, I hope you are treated with the same attitude that you are giving this mother!

Priorities, Spunky. Priorities. Nobody said she had to live in a drug infested trailer. Nobody said she had to drive "unsafe" cars.

Smith's Creek is a neighborhood where a majority of the homes run $150-$200K. I know MANY people who live in more modest homes, including manufactured homes, who live in nice neighborhoods.

No one is saying she should drive an unsafe car. In fact if you cannot afford to feed your children so you can drive TWO decent cars .. perhaps it is time to get rid of a car payment. Many families get by with one car.

Lastly ... I know several people with MS who are fully functioning <and working> members of society. It was not suggested she work but perhaps her DH needs to stock shelves a WalMart to make some regular extra cash until their situation changes.

Some of their circumstance is choice. They apparently live in a house they cannot afford and have car payments that eat a chunk of their income.

I am sorry to everyone that I offened with my post. You are right we can't afford our house but if we break our lease we loose our $2,300.00 deposit. We do plan on moving when our lease is up. As for our cars I guess maybe it is time to sell one of them anyone know how to sell a car you still owe money on? As for my MS I didn't say I couldn't get a job because of it I said I couldn't drive at night because it bother's my eyes and I can't see well and with my husband working during the day I would need to work at night. I am looking for a part time weekend job and I had one at Walmart only I had to go for an all day training from 9-6 and at the time my husband did not have any time he could take off of work. I do plan on starting to look again this weekend. We are a normal family who is down this christmas season and I was just looking for help from toys for tots and someone told me to post on this Christmas Angel post to see if there is any help out there. Anyone know how I can have my post removed from this Christmas Angel post? I guess we don't need the help as much as I thought we did because we are a middle class working family, my husband goes to college and we have 2 cars and a rental house.

Does a person have to be living in the gutter with tattered clothes, and a cardboard box for shelter to be considered needy and get a little help for their CHILDREN at Christmas time? She isn't asking anyone to support her family, or anything extreme, just a few gifts for her children ONE day of the year.

I think she needs a car with two young children at home. Clark42701, can you defer your December payment on either one of your cars?

Hang in there, Clark family. Remember, you got some very positive replies as well as the negative ones, and don't let it get you down.

If one of your cars is actually worth more than you owe on it, and if you can get along with only one car, selling one may be an option. But if you really need two vehicles, it may be counterproductive to sell one and buy a cheaper one. It sounds like you expect your financial situation to improve in the near future, and if you can continue to make ends meet, holding onto the cars you already have may be your best option. Remember, every time you trade cars, the dealer has to make a profit, and that's money out of your pocket.

You might want to check out the Money Matters forum here. I started reading it and got inspired to start couponing. I have never really done that before; when I was working I didn't feel it was worth the time it takes. But now I'm retired, and I have been really surprised at the money I'm saving. Maybe you're already doing that, but if not, check into it! Also check out this website: http://www.smartspendingresources.com/

Best of luck to you, and may the new year bring a turn for the better in you finances.

    Clark42701,
Drop by one of the local churches and ask for gift certificates for Basic Needs Ministry. This is a thrift store located behind Bojangles. You can clothe your children cheaply if not free! It is also a food pantry so after you shop for clothes, you can load up on emergency food for your family as well.

Ok my 4042 friends, there has been a total of 6 families nominated so far (including the Clarks). At this point I cannot take any more nominations. I will be contacting the families today and tomorrow and will try to narrow it down by biggest need.

    I'll let you know soon.

    :)

Bless you Jennifer for your hard work on this! I'm sure you will pick the right family to be helped. It's a shame we can't help all of them.

Let us know when you are ready for us to go to work!

Me, too. I am one of those "house poor" folks, having just sunk all my savings into this house. However, I have two kids and they have a lot of stuff they don't use anymore that's almost new. I don't know how much I can do, but I will certainly try.

    Snuff
