Too late. Main Steak closed for good about 3 weeks ago.

Cleo is right. The new Steak House to be operated by the Grannis' is located in the same building that Fishmans originally opened in downtown Clayton. The Fishman's claimed they got sick because of mold, etc. I believe there was a lawsuit. At least they threatned. They later opened in Sal's location and now you know the rest of the story.
Don't discount the limited menu planned by the Grannis'. I'm betting it will be successful. Have you ever eaten at Beefmasters in Wilson? Rib Eye steak and salad bar only. A very successful small restaurant. In the summer diners are waiting outside in lounge chairs they bring sitting around visiting and having a brew with friends. The Grannis' are a very popular couple in Clayton and have done very well operating their B&B. Michael is a Town of Clayton Commissioner.

I eat at Locked and Loaded once a week. I like it.

1st problem I see with this establishment is the salad bar. Come on now, is this a steakhouse or Golden Corral?? I like a salad bar as much as the next person, but not if I'm trying to go out to a nice dinner.

2nd problem is the bar will only be open to restaurant patrons? So I can't go in and have a glass of wine or beer without eating? That's stupid. I guess they don't want to turn it into a hang out bar, but come on!

thanks for that....since hunting season is almost over, 'dating season' is next....that's the season in between hunting and beach/fishing season which picks up in late March. we are always looking for recommendations for all restaurants.

Having a simple menu can be the key to success.

For years, my wife and I have patronized "BeefMaster" on Hwy 301 south of Wilson. It's a small place with a cook and one waitress. They only serve one steak (you choose size of cut) with baked potato and a salad bar.

It's great and always packed on weekends (open only for dinner and closed Sun, Mon, Tues)

Prices are reasonable, overhead is low, and return customers make the business work. I hope Clayton Steakhouse has similar success.
