And if you think that your political party affiliation, or beliefs, will keep you safe from online profiteering, think again. ANYONE is capable of spreading online disinformation and profiting handsomely from it:
Katie MacBride @msmacb · Aug 21 Just got off the phone with one of my closest friends, who is an ICU nurse at one of the biggest hospitals in the Bay Area. I'm going to share a few quotes from that conversation because I think it's hard for people to understand exactly what hospital workers are going through rn Katie MacBride @msmacb · Aug 21 "No one is ok." "It's PTSD but continuing trauma. For a year and a half, it's been trauma all day. I've been like this for half of my child's life." "There are no beds. I don't want to turn away immunocompromised people who got vaccinated & are seriously ill for anti-vaxxers." Katie MacBride @msmacb · Aug 21 "So many people said they didn't want to get a vaccine because it was 'experimental,' only to ask for a bunch of 'experimental' treatments once they get ill. Like you want remdesivir? Here's the waiver saying you agree to an experimental medication." Katie MacBride @msmacb · Aug 21 "I feel like everyone has abandoned us. It's like we're Vietnam vets who never wanted to go to war but were shunned with they came back anyway." "No one wants to work in healthcare anymore." Katie MacBride @msmacb · Aug 21 "It takes a lot of courage to walk into a unit and care for infectious patients and then come home to your unvaccinated child." "I'm tired of people calling me a Nazi." Katie MacBride @msmacb · Aug 21 I'm sharing her words because I don't have any good ones of my own right now. This is affecting her and her coworkers in horrifying, devastating ways. Please, please do everything you can to support the people who risk their lives to care for us.
Expect online, monetized hucksters and grifters to shift their disinformation stories now, after today’s FDA approval. In order to keep online attention focused, and the dollars rolling in, they will now amplify stories and content which seek to undermine, or delegitimize the FDA itself.
https://www.npr.org/sections/health...s-add-even-more-chaos-to-schools-start-n-2021 An Internal presentation from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention from late July estimated about 35,000 people a week were contracting a symptomatic breakthrough infection in the U.S. In the week leading up to July 24, about 384,000 people across the country tested positive for the coronavirus, which indicates about 9% of new cases were likely breakthrough infections. Chin-Hong says this is probably an underestimate of the true total, but shouldn't undermine the value of vaccines in peoples' minds.
That would put the efficacy of the vaccines in total in the 90% range for even the variants, which is still a good showing for a set of vaccines.
https://www.thestate.com/news/coronavirus/article253581114.html But up to 14% of those hospitalized at Lexington Medical Center’s COVID wing had previously been vaccinated, and 21% of COVID-19 deaths recorded by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control in July had received the recommended jabs. https://www.latimes.com/california/...dults-hit-by-covid-19-breakthrough-infections
https://www.yahoo.com/news/arent-legally-allowed-know-variant-120200097.html Most people with COVID-19 in the US are legally prevented from knowing which variant infected them. That's because sequencing tests have to be federally approved for results to be disclosed to doctors or patients, and most are not yet. Lab scientists say the process of validating the tests for approval is too costly and time-consuming.
A bigger factor in breakthrough cases can be age. CDC data show that 74 percent of breakthrough cases are among adults 65 or older. “It’s different when it hits them, because older adults have less of an immune response than others,” Kelly said. “Among those (breakthrough cases) hospitalized, the average age was 72, and among those who died, the average age was 80 years.” In total, South Carolina’s breakthrough tracker lists 329 confirmed breakthrough cases among the fully vaccinated that resulted in hospitalization, and 77 breakthrough deaths. That amounts to 0.0166% of vaccinated people ending up in the hospital, and 0.0039% who have died.
Cumulatively, among 5.1 million L.A. County residents who are fully vaccinated, 0.53% have tested positive, 0.014% have been hospitalized and 0.0013% — or 68 people — have died.[...] That means unvaccinated younger adults are three times as likely to get infected with the coronavirus as their fully vaccinated counterparts. Those being hospitalized, however, are far more likely to be older, unvaccinated adults. The hospitalization rate among unvaccinated adults 50 and older has risen to a new summertime high: For every 100,000 unvaccinated older adults, nearly 60 were in the hospital with a COVID-19 infection. But for every 100,000 fully vaccinated older adults, only five were in the hospital with a COVID-19 infection. That means unvaccinated older adults are 12 times more likely to be hospitalized than their vaccinated counterparts. Unvaccinated younger adults are 25 times more likely to be hospitalized than those who are fully vaccinated in that age group.
Out of all people in North Carolina, only 0.13% have died. If you use the entire data set as your statistic like they did, the number doesn't look that bad. 80.5% of all deaths were in 65 or older. So out of all NC residents. Out of all those under 65, 0.031% have died. That's a survival rate in NC among all people under 65, of 99.97%
No, that is not a valid statistical measurement because not all have had Covid 19 so it cannot be a survival rate. Did you not take statistics in college? The data dealt only with vaccination breakthrough, so only vaccinated populations were included in the data set and it was from the source YOU referenced. Did you even read what you referenced or were you intent on cherry picking something that sounded like what you wanted?
Nice cherry-picking. You have failed to incorporate any of the societal impacts beyond these questionable statistics. As we have seen, a virus can, and does, mutate into more transmissible, and dangerous forms. That is why hospitals in the South are filling up with unvaccinated Covid patients right now. While you continue to post these inane mathematical statistics concerning “death percentages”, unnecessary Covid patients are creating a dangerous situation by monopolizing medical services, and putting more of a burden on resources and hospital staff. You can’t just focus on a narrow statistic without bothering to synthesize the other serious, logistical impacts that unvaccinated patients have created. Yesterday, 75 Florida doctors walked off their jobs to protest the flood of unvaccinated people entering their hospitals. Most of these unvaccinated, Covid patients will recover, but their pigheaded selfishness is causing hospitals to temporarily suspend surgeries while their staff treats these people. We have already lost more than 450 nurses who became infected and died from Covid, and others are walking off the job. If, in a couple of months, we still have unvaccinated people getting sick unnecessarily, and showing up at hospitals, these people should NOT get priority treatment any longer. Statistics never tell the entire story of anything.
He never reads what he references. A few days ago, he posted comments that were anti-vaccine, and then included links that, if he had actually read them, he would have seen that they contained quotes from doctors encouraging people to get vaccinated. At this point, he’s just playing a lame, numbers game.
https://jocoreport.com/jcps-takes-action-against-teacher-who-refuses-to-wear-mask/ FOUR OAKS – A Johnston County high school teacher who refuses to wear a mask is speaking out about her stance and how Johnston County Public Schools has responded. Aurora Preston was looking forward to her sixth year as an English teacher at South Johnston High School. But things suddenly changed when she reported for the first teacher workday of the new school year. Aurora declined to wear a mask inside the school. Even with a medical exemption, officials reportedly told her, she would still be required to wear a plastic face shield. She said no. What “medical condition” given her apparent age and body type does she purport to suffer from that prevents her from placing a cloth mask over her nose and mouth? (Paranoia does not count for these purposes). She feigns a "medical condition," but then, with fervor, states she stands by her decision not to wear a mask in school. “I love what I do when it’s about connecting with and educating the students. They are amazing and always end up teaching me something too. The school board flipped their decision last minute to mandate masks for all students and staff right before teacher workdays started. I stand with educating myself and utilizing that to make informed decisions. Therefore, I have chosen to forego a mask in my daily life.” So, which is it? A "medical condition," or the very obvious actual reason, which is she is part of the anti-vax mob? She doesn't do a good job of "masking" the real reason. (I bet she has been anti-ACA since 2009, as well. Irony?) But yeah, I am sure a bunch of people will “stand with her.” You know, the Trump Mob who wants to see more school-aged kids in the hospital this fall. Look at the case numbers, and where they are happening (schools, among the kids). What about the 16 year old who just died from COVID down east? Ms. Preston likes to “connect with her students.” Soon, she will have fewer students to “connect with” because she is helping them into the hospital where they will be less able to learn than if she had simply covered her face.
You cannot include all vaccinated people in a statistic about hospitalizations and deaths since not all vaccinated people have had Covid 19. So if one is flawed, both are flawed. Also the statistic for all people includes a data set that is more than twice as long a period than the vaccinated only, since vaccines have only been out for about 8 months. Plus the 5.1 million have only been vaccinated a short time, a few months ago that number was much lower.
More “death statistics” and lame numbers games, huh?…. while conveniently ignoring what’s happening in our over-burdened Southern hospitals right now due to unvaccinated people seeking treatment.
Right, I mean who can even make these claims? Do these people not believe the nurses, doctors, surgeons, and family and friends who have had interactions with hospitals during the 2 "waves?" I suppose thousands of Americans are simply lying, and 5,000 media outlets are posting doctored footage of emergency rooms. Because why on earth would there NOT be some Grand Conspiracy between Brenda or Glenda the Nurse at Johnston Health and Vivek Murthy and Dr Fauci in DC and Bob the Doctor in Seattle? They're all conspiring to lie to people like Jesse so they can pop up here and give us the REAL story!
