With the rise of Delta, it became more than a 50/50 proposition for me - applying critical thinking is all it took to change my position. Look at my post from 10 days ago and see where the Delta trend has gone. For the vast majority of those not getting vaccinated, at this point, at least among the white people, the reason is political. Conservative mindsets cannot see 2 sides, instead staying beholden to a belief-system-at-all-costs. This is backed up by science and psychology. You are seeing what is happening in MO. Just wait until "Delta 2" pops up after Halloween; the Q-hat-wearing reality-deniers will be dropping like flies because they didn't want the "illegitimate government" telling them what to do. Darwin would say this is a good thing. I find it hard to disagree. Could the Delta variant end up saving the Republic from authoritarianism?
It is life or death, but the extreme majority of the people dying and who will die are choosing NOT to get the vaccine. It is an increasingly-poor decision, and among white people, it's mostly the racist, fascist insurrectionist-types who are making that poor choice. They have all the facts in front of them, but refuse to take the education. With minority populations, it's largely an issue of education and outreach, and we aren't doing enough at the community level. Those are the ones to feel sorry for. Sorry to pollute the thread, but it's something that crosses the mind....
Yes, and those people who cannot be vaccinated for whatever reason are being put at risk by those who blindly refuse to do anything positive for the general health and welfare of the people of this country.

Ignorance indeed, and a fear of the exposed truth, is what made “our little monkey troll” skedaddle so damned fast. The saddest thing about those maps is that the most preventable deaths from unvaccinated populations will happen in Southern states, probably in a matter of weeks. This, after the South has spent DECADES trying to convince the rest of the nation that the stereotype of Southern “ignorance” and “stupidity” is incorrect, and that we really are as “smart” as some of those other states. But “stupid is, as stupid does”, or in the case of refusing a Covid vaccination, “stupid does NOT”. So, if you haven’t been vaccinated yet, congratulations, you are officially promoting the worst stereotype of the South that most have fought hard to dispel….or maybe it’s not a “stereotype” after all, as this map proves. And if you do not get the vaccine, at least be smart and write up your last will and testament right now, so that your surviving family members know what to do with your posthumous Darwin Award. Sigh.

As usual, you make about as much sense as wearing a fur coat in a hothouse. Southerners are going to die for NO GOOD REASON due to the fact that this virus has been cynically politicized and exploited beyond belief. Those in states with low vaccination rates are walking Petri dishes that will prolong the pandemic, and may cause more virulent mutations down the road. It’s not a difficult concept to grasp, Honey. Unfortunately, as it stands, the South is practically a walking advertisement for stupidity and disease right now. We were a helluva lot smarter, and had more common sense as a country back in the 1950s, during the polio outbreak when the entire population got vaccinated, and Americans did this without hesitation or question. What an awfully selfish and stupid country we’ve become when Americans could care less whether they infect another person with a deadly virus, or stupidly kill themselves when there is a vaccine available to protect them - a vaccine, mind you - which was developed by the PREVIOUS administration that you supported. Talk about “shooting yourself in the foot”!
