I went last month and had mine renewed at that location. No problems, all the ladies were sweet to me and they let me smile. 8)
Just spoke to my friend, he went to the DMV to get his license which expired 6 months ago renewed and there were no penalties, written tests, anything different than if he had gone when it was due - luckily he did not get a ticket or it would have been a whole different ballgame:hurray:
Lesson learned Okay, I now have my renewed license in hand. I went to Clayton office and they were very nice. I gave a slight smile but I looked more like I was the cat who ate the canary since I was able to get them renewed. See......I went before my B-day and they would not renew them because I never have had my name "officially" changed with the Social Security administration when I married. Last time I renewed that didn't matter but since then, they have linked the SS computers with the DMV system in efforts to screen illegals I think. Soooo...I went to the DMV in Garner and when he asked if I had my SS card, I did not have it. He asked for my SS# and I (as usual) spit out half of DH's SS# and then said, "No, wait, that's my husband's." Then I gave him my SS#. I think he was leary of passing it through because of all that. He told me I had to go to the SS office and get the name changed and then come back. Well.....I had to have an "official" copy of both my birth certificate and my marriage license to get my name changed. I had to order the birth cert and I thought I DID have the official copy of the marriage license. Mean while, I'm telling my friends about this and they tell me, "Oh, no, don't worry, you have 30 days grace period." Since it was an unusually busy week for me, I did not call the DMV to verify. Guess it was just too convenient to trust my friends on this. (I know, I know). So, DH is going out of town and decides this morning to just verify that there is a grace period. He finds out there is none and was all too happy to tell me and gloat about it. Now I'm stuck with an expired license. DH comes and picks me up to go to the SS office and on the way, we notice that our marriage license is actually a person copy, not "official." I told him that I wanted to try once more to get my license before we went all the way to Raleigh and stood in line only to have our marriage license rejected by the SS office. We went to Clayton DMV and this time I had my SS card and the lady was able to renew it by putting my entire name (including maiden) on the license. WHEW! What a day. DH has really picked at me about it. He just KNEW I was gonna get turned away again at the DMV. That's why I look so devious in my new pic. I was cutting up with him since I got my license. I told him I guess the "official" part to me was when I said "I do!" The moral of the story. Don't procrastinate & trust, but VERIFY! Now you fellows be nice to me. I've had a hard day and DH has already shamed me plenty.:lol: p.s. You only have to take the driver's test again if it has been expired one year or more.
DH was late getting his renewed and he said he didn't get any slack when he went. The next time he has to have it renewed will be when he turns 53!
Here's the way I see it in a nutshell. If you let your license lapse, and the cops bust you on it, one of two things will happen. 1. They'll give you a warning and let you off. 2. They'll give you a ticket. If they let you off, cool. Now, go down and get your license before they stop you again. If they give you a ticket, one of two things will happen. 1. The DA will let you off. 2. The DA won't let you off and you'll be fined. If the DA lets you off, cool. Now, go down and get your license before they stop you again. If you have to pay the fine, pay it and quit whining. You screwed up by not getting your license like you were supposed to. Be an adult, pay the fine, and get your butt down to the DMV and get your license before they stop you again.
Ok, ok Clif, but mine isn't due for renewal until September, bump this thread for me around August, ok?
How do I know if I have to take the test again? I got a ticket but used the "prayer for judgement", so it is not on my insurance. Do I still have to take the test again?
