When I spoke to a rep at the SC DMV recently, the Guv hadn't signed off on it, and DMV still didn't have a design submitted.

I was reading further about the requirements for pre-paid orders before the DMV would start issuing plates and SC has set a minimum of 400.

In NC the typical number is set at 200 before DMV will start issuing a special plate, with a few exceptions where there are no minimums as long as the recipient met other criteria for that particular plate.

I wouldn't care if NC set the minimum at 1,000 and there had to be at least 1 order from each of the 100 counties, I'd meet that goal in no time flat.

I've already had one state senator who said that a faith-based special plate like the one I proposed would be "a big hit".

didn't NC just approve a "choose life" plate? i'm pretty sure i heard that in the last couple of weeks...said there had to be a minimum of 300

am i in the minority in thinking that pretty much all special plates are kind of stupid? I mean... fund raising things like friends of the Great Smokey Mountains are great, but... just plates? Plates that have to be approved by the state congress? It seems a bit absurd... and a waste of time for something that could be easily accomplished by a bumpersticker.

The CHOOSE LIFE plate is in the hopper for the 2nd time. It got shot down last year without making it out of the Finance Committe, which is where it sits at the present time.

And the 300 minimum is correct. That's the first time I've seen any number greater than 200:

    As they say, stay tuned.

:iagree: I was made to drive the vehicle with a Hurricanes Plate on it, but the other hockey advertisements on the vehicle are definitely more prominent.

Speaking of advertisements/Bumperstickers - I saw someone driving to RDU last week with what I thought was a Jesus Fish on the back of their vehicle (you know the kind that looks like there are Roman characters within the fish). Well I got up close and the writing in the fish said "NCHIPS"!

My two cents - that will annoy most everyone....

I think it you wish to shout your religion from your car than get a bumper sticker - get a bunch of them.
Making the state government sit and entertain idea on religious based plates sounds like a time waster. I am sick and tired of "christian " groups shoving their belief down everyones throat. It is a matter of choice and when I am driving down the road at 65 I don't give a hoot who or what you believe as long as you are a safe driver.
We are supposed to be a country founded on religious freedom and I should not have to see religious symbols on state government items - such aas a license plate. My tax dollars ay to make those things too. I think their should be total separation between religion and government, both federal and state. THat includes schools. If you want to display a religious icon or to pray fine, do it, but don't expect the rest of us to have to make a special time, place or plate for you.
There are more then "christians" in this state and they should be respected too. AS far as pro choice and pro life plates - I will bet that some of the over zealous pro-lifers who feel it is murder, would be pelting or scratching the cars that made the selection of a pro-choice plate.
you need to lok at the broader spectrum of things. Personalize your car anyway you would like - but don't expect the government to back you.

And for the record...i am a denomination of christianity - one that teaches tolerance and respect for those around me. God is merciful and the judge of all. Not me, so I will remain tolerant and look after my fellow man. Religion is usually an accident of birth - you are what your family is. Usually, not always. WE won't know whose right till we get there...i have my beliefs and others have theirs. i don't need a license plate to do it.
