I've looked online at Penny's and they are not as pricey as regular clothing...considering you'd only have to have less than 1/2 of the current clothing, because it would only be needed on the weekends.
How about Kahki pants/shorts/capris with a solid color shirt? Little sis has a "uniform" for work. Monday is (I don't know exactly what she wears each day but) Black pants and a green shirt. Tuesday is Kahki pants and a blue shirt, Wednesday is ..... well ya'l get the point. That has to be cheaper than these "name" brand clothes these kids are wearing. Yes?
That's a good idea Harleygirl! It does add some color to the picture as well as not having the same thing day after day.
The rule about leggings falls under the skin tight bicycle pants section. Most girls wearing these are trying to get away with too short of a skirt by putting the leggings underneath. Tights/pantyhose are not the same thing. The actual rule is mid-thigh (shorts) or 3-inches above the knee (skirts/dresses). Skorts that look like shorts in the back fall under the first while skorts that look like a skirt all the way around fall under the skirt rule. The fingertip idea is a good way for girls to judge their clothing for themselves, but if a girl has short or long arms, that affects this guideline.
When in doubt....don't wear it!!! Most girls I know just wear capris or pants because the short length rule is almost impossible to follow (can't find them long enough)...unless you're built like a toothpick and can wear the bermuda shorts.
My kids use to wear uniforms at school before we moved here. They had 2 colors of pants/shorts/skorts/skirts/jumpers to wear (navy blue and khaki) and then the school chose 3 to 4 different color polo shirts for that year that they could wear, so it still gave the kids a variety to choose from. Kids were still able to wear their own shoes (there was not a uniform shoe) and the girls their jewelry (boys were not allowed to wear earrings, but could wear watches, bracelets, necklaces), and no tongue rings or anything like that. It made a world of difference. The initial cost of the uniforms seems a lot, but when it came down to how much one usually pays for school clothes to start with, it isn't that much plus unless the kids went on a major growing spurt, the uniforms could be worn the next year (although the school may change a few of the colors of the polo shirts) and also at the end of the year, parents of kids who graduated or had outgrown their clothes, etc had an opportunity to sell their uniforms to others (providing they were not trashed). I loved it. At first I was against it, but after a short time, I realized how much a difference it made. I had been use to things a certain way prior to the uniform rule, and didn't want to change because I was afraid it would take so much away from my kids by taking away their freedom of choice, per say, but the still had a chance to choose....colors, jewelry, shoes, hair style, etc. It took so much off the teachers as far as monitoring everything that was not allowed and fewer kids got in trouble for not following the dress code guidelines. I am all for uniforms!
I love it KEN!!!!! Very well said!!! Buy the poor well endowed child some looser fitting shirts that don't show off her clevage. Problem solved. Why would any granny say more then once how well built her grandchild is? I would prefer her to be prouder of her grandchild accomplishments then her bra size. JMO.
Blinders wouldn't help. Ya'll would find some other way to tempt us beyond what we could stand I'm sure. You were doing it before bikinis and miniskirts were invented.
If you think about it women started all sin by tempting us to eat the damned apple. Craig BTW......my personal opinion is they should require school uniforms, and require that the uniforms be purchased from an authorized fitting outlet to prevent someone from getting a uniform that is a size too small that would then still be provocative and tight fitting. (atleast on some people anyway).
My thought is that we as parents need to instill in these children today, a little respect, and that means not wearing revealing clothing. Boys of the Middle School age need not see 12 year old girls as sex objects. Yes, they all look, but if we teach them not to act with the wrong brain, parents wouldn't be taking care of their childrens' children !
I also try to explain to my students that I have certain things I do not wear at school (flip flops, tanks tops) that I save for "away from school" activities. There is a time and place for (almost) everything.
They may as well learn it while they are in school, there is a time and place for everthing like Pirate said. If your not selling it, don't advertise it. If you act and dress like a lady, you will be treated as one, it's a simple as that. If there is any doubt about whether it crosses the dress code line, then don't wear it. Why stir up trouble for yourself?

Under the NC General Statutes any rules incorporated by the Schools must be clear and unambiguous in definition. Based on the body ergonomics of the average school age youth, the JCS rules do not meet the laws requirements. They have done a terrible job on the rules for the 11 years I've had to deal with it and I don't expect it to change. A few of the rules hold a kin to idiocy. If our school systems ever wake up and start dealing with a problem in lieu of blanket rules I'll be amazed. Punish the many for the problems of the few. While your fitting the kids for those uniforms why not teach them how to goose step march too.
I have no problems what so ever with kids being individuals by wearing what they want or their parents can afford, but when it interfers with their learning or with the ability of others to learn then there is a problem. If a 14 year old girl is well endowed and is wearing a tight top that shows everything God gave her then by all means let her (if her parents agree). She just needs to do it at the mall or somewhere other than a place of education as that type of attire will cause distractions in a place of education. If everyone were to actually have school uniforms that actually FIT PROPERLY then the distractions while at a learning facility will be decreased, and hopefully the children will actually learn something other than how to be poor trailer type trash, hoochie wannabes (atleast image wise). Craig, I agree with you on the exposure issue. Cover it up or go home. I should have said that in my post. My gripe is the loose nature of the rules. It gives the school authorities the option to "define at will" what the rule means. Giving them autonomy in the decision process is dangerous, as I, and many others have experienced. And don't kid yourself, these people pride themselves on standing in their decisions, stupid or not. The human body is a non-typical structure. Using rules that define locations on the body that may differ as much as 3 inches, from individual to individual, prevents many kids from wearing standard available clothing. My point is get off the hard line rules, rules, rules, and start addressing the individual nature of some children. These ambiguous rules are creating a class of clothing "handicap" children. If they're not careful, someone is going to take them to court on that very issue one day. And uniforms, they strip the very nature of a child’s expression and individuality. Why do you think the military indoctrinated the use of uniforms? I believe there should be a dress code, but not a Gestapo regime writing and enforcing it. The fact that we teach Constitutional Rights in school and then legally strip that right from those we teach in school makes no sense at all. It sends an all too alarming message to those we teach. I agree that teaching and managing in our school systems these days is a very hard job. But blanket rules and reducing rights is a poor management option. It's the "easy" way out and shows no profit in the education of our children. We need more money in our school system if we ever want to overcome the problems. Stop the foolish foreign aid and start using it at home for our children. PS: The "trailer type" trash comment only exposes your bias nature. Many good people call that home and your derogatory comment towards them is rude. Hopefully you weren’t taught that in school.
Kiddo came home today saying that at the high school they were considering banning Rainbow flip flops and the wearing of sunglasses on top of your head! Seems these are gang related symbols??!!! Sounds more like a student rumor.....we can only hope!
HOLY COW then I'm in a gang! I have 3 pair does that make me a ranking officer or something? And my hubby and kid have them too. Are we in the family or WHAT!?
