OK, my kid is getting them, but definitely will not be allowed to terrorize little old ladies in the grocery store! For crying out loud, a little common sense people!

I have actually seen a lot of kids using them and not bothering anybody.

My kids want them SO bad. But they go everywhere in the neighborhood on their scooters. What will become of the scooters if they have the wheels in their shoes? I think it's probably not worth the extra money, especially when you can just about buy a Razor scooter and a decent pair of sneaks for the price of the Heelies. I'm thinking about skateboards for Christmas this year: much more versatility for your leisure dollar, IMO.

I'm not at all bothered by the kids I've seen using them. They have more to worry about than I of running into me. I'm 2-3 times their size and stable. They will be going down, not me. :p

The cousin has a pair & is a terror on them. But soon I'm sure he will outgrow them or tire of them
and they well be passed on down to us...

    Oh The Joy.

You can't skate in the street in them, that is why the kids prefer malls, stores, etc. On that note, I almost impaled a girl at Target with my new mop poking out of my cart when I was coming out of an aisle and she was headed straight for me.... Then she headed straight for a clothing rack. LMAO!!! Mom just pretended to not see. Mom of the year.

So, just passing judgment on others' kids. Interesting, but don't.

The kids in Clayton were whizzing past during the parade. Going down the hill from T.R. Lee's towards downtown. Just about wiped out one of the YMCA girls.

When they're a nuisance in public, it becomes my right. If you don't want people to pass judgement on your parenting skills or your childrens behavior in public then keep them at home. But, I digress, this is where Cleo will say it's a good thing I don't have kids.. and we've been down this road before with regard to children in other venues.

(not a slam Cleo... just don't wanna drag the same argument up again)

    ***smooch***

Agreed....but Craig was saying that Heelies make kids lazier than they are already are. Unless he has kids that are lazy, I don't think he has the right to sit in judgment of others....IMHO.

You can skate in the street/sidewalk with them - but it is not worth the effort - downhill is really the only place outside that they are practical. It is one little wheel in the heel of the shoe, hence the name "Heely". And then, to try and balance on that one wheel, with the bumpy road and any gravel that might be in it... I take it your son doesn't have a pair, mordor? Have you even seen them up close?

I agree with Craig and Tassy, they are a public nuisance. I also can't believe the school "allows" the kids to use them in the halls. My son swears that he doesn't bring his wheels to school but I guess only time will tell.

So the wheel isn't a permenant part of the shoe and can be removed?

I haven't seen any actually off of a childs foot, so I'm just asking...

So are you saying that being able to take a step or 2 to push off every so often and just roll along the rest of the time isn't lazy? What's wrong with actually walking to get to the same outcome? Walking would be and is better exercise then just rolling along.

But then again I would venture to guess that these came along as a kind of replacement to roller blades because society has gotten to the point of laziness that we (scoiety) don't want to bother having to take an extra pair of shoes and have to take the time out of our busy day to change back and forth from blades to shoes. Not to mention that these also kinda circumnavigate those signs that say no bikes, rollersblade, or skateboards, since technically they are neither rollerblades nor skateboards

Yes Tassy, that's correct. You can walk on the shoe without the wheel engaged.

The one's that I have seen personally the wheel usually just flips up and down on a hinge system that is embedded in the sole of the shoe. Actual Heelys brand requires a removal tool and a replacement sole insert (based on their website information) to take the wheels in and out of the heel of the shoe.

Yep, with a little "lever" tool, that would be seen as a weapon by the school, I am sure.

Actually, the schools do NOT allow students to wear Heelys with the wheels in place. If caught, the wheels can be taken and given to a parent. They are hazardous to other students in hallways, class, etc.

When I was a kid we didn't have Heeeeeeelys. We ran through gravel barefooted till our feet bled ...and we LOVED it.

Kids ...blah ...always gettin' in the way and botherin' people.

Excellent! Thank you, ACF. Has any communication been sent home to parents? I know I haven't seen any - but that doesn't mean it wasn't given to him to pass on to his parents. <getting a can of whoop a$$ ready for 3PM).
