    Its not the same to me. Our immigration laws are not being enforced despite the fact that most citizens would like them to be. (illegals aren't citizens, so they should have no say in the matter) Just look at the public outcry over this issue the last time it came up in Congress. Speed limit laws however, are not being enforced because they are not the will of the people and citizens don't want them enforced. In one case, the law is the will of the people, but is not being enforced. In the other case the law is not the will of the people, so the government lacks the legitimacy to vigorously enforce it.

    If we started strictly enforcing our immigration laws, the vast majority of citizens would be ecstatic. If we started strictly enforcing speed limits, the public outcry would get the laws changed PDQ.

    Isn't he really saying that speeding laws do not serve their stated purpose, because it's not high speed per se that is dangerous, but reckless driving? Speed limits are supposed to promote highway safety, but Josey is saying their real purpose is revenue, not safety. The fact that nobody obeys posted speed limits, I think, is peripheral to his argument. I think. So I don't think that argument transfers very well to illegal immigration.

    Just my 2 cents.

    You would be suprised but the majority of people do obey the speed limit laws, especially when they are in front of a police car
