Well, of course I believe in Him! You know what I meant... I don't believe in the souls of dead people wandering around the earth scaring living people. I DO, however, believe in demons, but they don't need an old house to carry out their evil deeds.
I remember when they were re-building, they moved the house to center between the trees, but I don't know they can really count as historical? when they "Remodeled" they strip down everything to the studs and they added several other parts to the house, It is more new then old
I would imagine the only people who could afford this house are celebrities (what's the chance they'd want to live here?) or developers. I'm betting on the developers. They'll cut up the 174 acres and just leave the house on a little lot. That's the only way I see it selling.
1875 my hiney...there probably isn't a toothpick's worth of the original house...they took a really neat old house and turned it in to a tacky, new money monstrosity. It had character...anyone with taste could've remodelled it nicely and maintained that... Wish it was haunted...serve 'em right...
Interesting story told to me by the owner....a tree between the house and that large red barn was struck by lightening just before they started the remodeling...the current came into the house and BLEW every nail out of the walls...no joke.
You really shouldn't judge if you haven't been inside. Much of the original woodwork was retained/refinished/repainted. Yes, they did modernize much of it but I don't see what purpose you serve saying "serve 'em right". FYI, the house was moved in an attempt to SAVE some of the older trees in the back whose roots had no where to go. Also, what exactly is tacky about the house? Again, I only know the owners through a friend of a friend, but having been inside, and having met them, I think they would be hurt by some of these comments. They are good, down to earth people. OK, I'm ready, pounce away................................
I think that house is gorgeous and sure wish my husband could afford to pay $40,000/month for a mortgage.
i want to know who in the hell has 9mil to spend on a house in johnston county. Must be some old money right there
I watched the process and would love to see the inside. Personally, I like the house and the fact that they moved the original structure to save the trees endears it to me. The fountain is pretty and the iron fence is tasteful. If I had the money, I'd snap it up and put it in my will that the land not be broken up. That's one area that needs to remain. Frogger
I knew the previous owner before this owner. The house was your original plantation style house during it's time. The previous owner sold the house after her husband died, just too big of a house and she was in not so good health. The present owner is a lawyer in Raleigh and apparently inherited a large amount of money after his father's death, so the story goes. My husband spent a fare amount of time in the house while growing up in this area and says that there were stories about the original house being haunted etc., spooky basement and all or is that the one further down the road (get them confused sometimes when he talks about his childhood). The house was moved from it's original foundation and moved back a good ways for the construction on the new house. I doubt there's much left of the original house, couldn't really understand why they just didn't start from scratch, nothing remotely looks like the original. There are only two people that live in that house, the pool house from what I've heard was meant to be for the owners elderly mother to live in once the couple was able to move into the bigger one. I just know it's too rich for my pockets.
