YES, I voted for Bush. I do not agree with every decision he's made. BUT, every time Kerry opens his mouth I'm sure I made the right decision. I do think Kerry owes all the military an opology. He is a snob and YES, he cost the democrats votes. Despite the displeasure we feel about Iraq, we americans will not take lightly an attack on our military. His remark was blatantly just that. Given the choices my vote would still go to Bush!!! Wonder what Kerry would have done in those seven minutes. Scary, isn't it. I also agree that MRS. Kerry has no class. Good thing she has money!! Yes, Jackie Kennedy was a great role model. Mrs. Bush also has class and dignity.

Good thing that was articulate, pcroom, or some might accuse you of looking stupid.

this was a badly delivered joke, nothing more. To say anything beyond "Wow, Kerry you suck." is just being overly dramatic, and it shows quite easily in how you talk about it. Clif, your claim that "Anyone who is or was in the military, and doesn't take Mr. Kerry's words as an offense, is lying to themselves and is strictly partisan in their beliefs." seems to me entirely opposite to the truth. Anyone who is willing to take 1 failed joke, 1 simple error of speech as an all out attack on our troops that should kill his political career is simply the sound-byte equivalent of a gold digger.

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get us stuck in Iraq."

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, we get stuck in Iraq."

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. It is because he didn't that we are stuck in Iraq."

    Simple. Now grow up.

Do any Liberals really care about the soldiers lives (they probably actually do care), or just blaiming Bush? Re enlsitment is meeting goals, and recruitment is meeting goals. That says a lot to me. I know people that have re enlisted to go back. I know people that were there, and say yes it is scary, but that they are doing good things.

BobF etc, if you were President today, what would you do right now? I have not heard any Dem other than Murtha say what they would do.

And Kerry was, in my oppinion, saying that only people in the miltary are not good enough to go to college, and I did listen to the whole speach. Kerry is an elitest snob. He may have had a C avg (did he release his eduactional records yet???) but ask him common questions and he would be clueless. Ask him what car number Dale Earnhardt drove. Ask him who wrote "your cheating heart". Ask him what year Ford started making the Taurus. Ask him who one the Stanley Cup last year. I bet he would be 0 for 4.

7 minutes?????? Okay, okay...lol.....that's too funny......Our nation was just attacked the worst ever in history and we expected the president, a HUMAN BEING by the way, to just react with decisions in 7 MINUTES??? The title president does not make someone become immortal. They do not get powers like in the "X-Men". I imagine the president was just as shocked and flabbergasted as the rest of the nation.....I know I could not believe it and it did not exactly it sink in for WAY MORE than 7 minutes. He did however react in a timely manner as well as the rest of the government could.

I think it's time to quit thinking that the president is invincible and immortal. If we get that "That person is such a god" or the indignant "Well....I would've done it like..." or "He is useless!!!" attitudes out of our heads, we might realize that everyone is human and has their own reaction time. Even John Kerry.......Now folks, he has had plenty of reaction time from his so called "joking" statement, but he hasn't sent the first apology to the military......

I am getting tired of hearing this explained as a bad joke, or a screwed up joke.

Whether it was poorly delivered or poorly worded, it was a joke at the expense of our soldiers. Would you say the same thing about a racist joke? "Oh, it's only a joke." Or would you garner more insight into the person telling the joke by the subject matter used?

I find that question offensive, even with your parenthetical disclaimer. I believe some of us care more about the soldiers lives than some of the so-called conservatives. Some of us think the way to support the troops is to listen to the generals with war-fighting experience, and provide the needed troop levels and equipment to do the job. Instead, Rumsfeld shows nothing but contempt for career military officers, and reportedly threatened to fire anybody who wanted to talk about Stage IV Planning.

Since we have not yet developed the time machine that would allow us to un-invade Iraq, the next best thing is to figure out the exit strategy that would leave Iraq as stable as possible while getting us out in a reasonable time. One Democrat who has had a plan on his website for many months is Joe Biden. www.uniteourstates.com And he's not the only one.

It was a joke. It wasn't directed at you specifically, or at liberals in general.

    There, now, feel better?

If the joke wasnt intended to be racist, and the failure of the punchline made it so, then i would not take it to be some amazing insight into the persons character. Its not like he made a joke about the military, and missed his que. He made a joke about the president and missed some words. He should have missed the joke entirely, and i really wish he hadnt made it, but you're intentionally (i think it has to be intentional at this point) confusing the jokes failed punchline with its intended punchline.

Also, keep in mind John Kerry's military service in vietnam came after his graduation from Yale, so if this joke he made was intended to call our troops uneducated, then i cant quite see how with that being his experience.

Those two questions have the same answer…”yes”.

Anecdotal evidence on BOTH sides is easy to come by. The REAL question is “Are we better off with Iraq like it is now, or like it was five years ago?”

Five years ago we had a neutered dictator restricted by sanctions and ‘no-fly’ zones, and NO flag-draped coffins coming back here.

Not a perfect scenario, but it almost seems like a wonderful, unattainable fantasy compared to what we have now.

Murtha’s plan would work for me. He’s been there, and he knows what he’s talking about.

…but are you aware that Kerry has used that same joke many times before, and it was very clear each time what he meant?

    Kerry Standard Joke:

"Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."

Sure don’t see any troops being insulted there….none being killed, either.

And Kerry wasn’t a very good Ivy-League cheerleader, either. I'll admit that Dubya did HIS Duty to his Uniform, even when he was REALLY hung over!

    "Rah! Rah! Sis-Boom-.....sumptin'"

    Ha ha!

    This is a set-up, right?

You’re feeding this to me intentionally. You MUST be.

Dubya doesn’t know the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite. He didn’t know that there were Islamic factions that wanted to kill each other, even though Iran and Iraq fought an eight-year war over these very issues.

…and now we’re paying the price for Dubya’s superior ‘knowledge’ regarding what car Dale Earnhardt drove. :?

“I speak the Common Man’s Language!”

Yeah…Dubya probably knows what year Ford started making the Taurus, where dumb ‘ol Kerry doesn’t.

I sure feel safer now.

Ah-mm, (in no particular order) Pearl Harbor? War of 1812? Cold War? Civil War (Fort Sumter)?

I think the only decision most of us reasonably expected of him was to put down My Pet Goat and start asking questions.

I agree, hught. But not that exact moment.....Gosh, when they told us my sister-in-law had died unexpectedly and suddenly, we did not immediately jump right on the cause and start making plans that moment. We were SHOCKED. We kind of sat there in disbelief and horror, like, "ok, wake me up. Please tell me I'm dreaming....". Traumatic things tend to warrant a "disbelief" feeling and a shock. Tell me that if you were the president you would have reacted any differently. And you also must remember he was in front of school children and others who he did not need to alarm and frighten at that moment till he knew what was going on.. Imagine if he had freaked out, jumped and ran out. He's the president for Pete's sake, people would have been a little concerned if he did that, don't you think? There is some things that people don't need to be privy to right away. He handled it as well as can be expected in the type of enviroment that he was in.

John Kerry remarked afterward that he flubbed a "joke"

Sorry, but anything to do with war is not a joke. Even the students in California looked a bit pained when he opened his mouth and inserted his foot. To think he was so freaking proud of those purple hearts of his...now he jokes about our troops.

He needs to go off for awhile, let things cool down, maybe he and Jane can go visit some museums in Viet Nam till this patter dies down.

How long did Mr. Roosevelt take to react to the news that Pearl Harbour had been attacked? Presuming, of course, that had didn't know about it before hand?

How long did Mr. McKinley take to react to the sinking of the USS Maine?

You don't know these things because there were no TV cameras around to tape the President as we do now a days.

The only reason there's a question about the seven minutes, is because of anti-Bush hatreds looking for any reason to attack him.

You can Monday morning quarterback all you want, but you will never know what Mr. Gore, or any other politician, would have done given the exact scenario. You may guess at it, but you'll never know for sure.

Mr. Kerry has apologized. I believe the apology is heartfelt, even though there is a bit of backhandedness there as well (he is a politician, after all).

To continue to dwell on this particular issue is counter productive.

    Simple.

Most of al Qaeda's senior leadership is dead, and they have been unable to mount another attack on U.S. soil.

Just more and more mounting proof that what's good for America is bad for Democrats, and Democrats don't give a rat's ass about anything except getting their power back.

Oh good, I was afraid this thread would go without comments from Oy! yaaaaaaay oy! I have missed you! Have you been good? I’m glad. I’m glad. Oh, you've still got the foam dripping from the corners of your mouth? That’s good. I mean, you'd hate to lose such a distinguishing feature, you know? Well. Have a good day then, make sure to keep away from the rabies shots, and also avoid making sense at all costs.
