Yes homeschoolers are required to take an end-of-year test that is acceptable to the state. There isn't a whole lot to choose from, but we use the CAT (California Achievement Test). Funny thing is, we are required to test, but not required to report the results to the county.
Moved out of Raleigh to get away from Wake schools. My kids being moved to a different school every year is not what I wanted for them.
i think my biggest concern would be when your children are on different tracks in year round - can you imagine trying to plan a vacation or even arrange for childcare - seems like it would be a real headache and what about swim team, baseball, all those things that practice during the summer?
I don't know anyone who has children on different tracks in elem or middle, but I'm sure it can exist. I can't imagine that all four tracks at both schools are so full that a family would be separated. Now high school is different as there are no YR HS except a couple of modified YR's. Even with YR and traditional, there are common weeks out to have vacations or parents can opt for the traditional calendar es or ms. As for sports, are the practices during the day or afternoon and evenings?
Most sports are over before the school lets back in. My son just started Monday, but he is on a modified year round school. My oldest will be on a traditional. The only thing that bothers me is the Early Release on Wednesdays. Today my son gets out of school at 2:45. I don't know what they were thinking when they thought this was a good idea. I can imagine how many kids are home alone this afternoon!
EC info I am an EC teacher in a Johnston Co school. We still have resource teachers and are not trying to get rid of them. The county is toughening their requirements for interventions before final placement in EC. The teachers have to have measurable interventions before testing can occur. Hope that helps.
