Can someone tell me where they heard the facts that Rodger Davis was Demoted and Mr. Massengell was suspended? Was it in the newspaper? Please provide where that info came from . Ty
Mark, why didn't you voice that at Town Hall? With the press and county there, maybe alot more would get accomplished if you just said now, then. You know what I mean??? From what I understand,ya'll just kind of backed down and stuff, and really RUINED the chance of having some major stuff happen. Im not getting flip, Im just saying you had the forum to tell the news, county, everyone, how filthy and stuff, yet ya'll played it safe. Now I think it's to late. JMHO
That sounds great to me, but HOW? I for one will do anything I can, Im embarrassed to say, I dont know who our congressman is, and how to lobby. Please advise. May
Because if you had read and seen the articles they know how bad it was down there and they are trying to make some changes for the better. Also were you at the meeting to say anything or are you just gripping on the computer???
The following a copy from News 14's web site. Please note the date. Johnston County Sheriff's Office gets new focus Updated: 7/9/2003 10:30 AM By: Cle Pickett & Web Staff ...But a local animal protection group has criticized the shelter's euthanization policy. In June alone, nearly 300 animals brought here were killed. Shelter officials says there's simply nowhere to put all the animals. In fact, last month alone, the shelter picked up more than 450 animals and got more than five hundred calls from people needing help. Shelter manager Roger Davis says that's too much for him and his three animal control officers to handle. But Davis plans to start a program in which volunteers can come in and help out. "We can work more on helping the dogs and cats that are here," said Davis. "Instead of just catching dogs & cats and housing them for a short period of time." Davis says he also plans to find a volunteer veterinarian to help with the care of the animals. This sounded so good at the time. We, the people of Johnston County let him forget some of these things he wanted to do. Maybe he did want to make a difference. We, as animal lovers need to help. Be the voice for those that can not speak. WE Can make a difference!!!! Habitat for Niko !!
There is a documentary on PBS airing Thursday... Maybe it will shed some light on the subject??? Best Friend Forgotten airing Thurs., Oct. 14th from 10-11 p.m. on UNC-TV (PBS)

From 1270wmpm.com news page 10/12/04 FORMER ANIMAL SHELTER DIRECTOR DEMOTED, INTERIM NAMED - Changes have been made at the Johnston County Animal Shelter following the accidental euthanization of a dog less than 24 hours after it was voluntarily quarantined by its owners. On Tuesday, Johnston County Manager Rick Hester named Ernie Wilkinson of Kenly the new interim manager. Hester said he selected someone from an outside organization to analyze the entire situation from a management perspective. Hester said he hopes Wilkinson can “facilitate positive changes in the areas of internal procedures, public relations, local partnerships and adoptions.” The former animal shelter director, Roger Davis, was demoted to second in charge of the facility on Tuesday and was named lead animal control officer. His salary was also decreased from $35,754 to $31,463. Two employees at the animal shelter, Chad Massengill and Bryan Bryant were suspended without pay for three days and two days respectively. Pat LaCarter, Human Resources Director, said Wilkinson was hired on a contract basis for a period estimated to be between 3 to 9 months. He will be paid $29 per hour for his consulting work. Wilkinson currently serves on the Johnston Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board. He is a former Kenly mayor and councilman.
