To the kids that can't afford pencils? Mental Note to LifeIsGood... pass out pencils at Halloween next year.
Now that is an IDEA! Actually my boys got one or two pencils in their bags. I am sure they wil be gone by tomorrow. I swear I have sent like 50 dang pencils to school(each kid), I have put their names on the dang things. I have tried everything. Yesterday while getting their homework done I saw my boy doing his in pen. I asked him "where are your pencils?" I got a blank stare. Sent 10 more today in his bookbag. I put them in all the pockets so he will always have one. UGHHHHHH> One more thing, what the heck do they eat for lunch? My goodness I have sent at least 120.00 for 2 of them each. Pizza line at 1.80 a dang piece. I am in the wrong business. Another UGHHHHH. ok, getting off my soapbox before I have a panic attack.
I just wanted to touch on the subject of ADHD. My stepson used to live with his mom and she being a very dysfuntional person thought it would be great to have all three kids diagnosed with something so they would be medicated and not bother her. The school he attended decided that they would inform her that he had ADHD. So they actually suggested certain medications that over time have a really bad rap. His father was very clear he did not want him on medicine convinced he was just a growing boy and the fact the house he was living in at the time did not provide the best alternative for him to be productive and be nurtured. She did get medicine for him and it made him into a violent and explosive child to the point you wanted to call the cops everytime there was an outburst. ( Mind you he never did that before ) He came to live with us and eventually he was weaned off his medicine and now as he is coming into his teenage stage is much much better. There is no real point per say. I don't feel schools have the credentials to diagnose children. Further more they should not suggest medicine. Doctors and tests can perform this task much better. I don't think it's right to label children because they are being children. Yes some actions are embarassing that children pull but we are the parents and we as parents need to teach and nurture the right behavior for our children to grow and function. There are children who do need medicine they have true disorders but that is for the doctors to say. There is nothing wrong with it either. Medicine works for some and not for others. It doesn't mean that these kids will be on medicine for ever either. We were all kids once and I can say for sure we acted out just as much as the kids do today. Our influence was ourselves just as the kids today are influenced.
pencil fights!!!!! omg those were amazing =( i miss those. sitting on the bus, snapping our pencils back and forth and stuff. i built a suit of armor for one once, it didnt do anything useful at all (i didnt yet understand the forces involved, and that wrapping it in a flexible metal sleve would do nothing to prevent the impact from destroying my pencil).. on the subject of ADHD medicine, most of them are heavy stimulants, so pretty much if you take one and your imediate responce is not "OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG WALL! YES I CAN RUN INTO THAT WALL QUITE QUICKLY AND THEN REBOUND TO THE NEXT WALL IN RAPID SUCCESSION!" you're mind is probably atleast partially ADHD wired. in the ADHD mind, stimulant ~= concentration, for some messed up reason. i used to self-medicate with caffiene, it was cool. i did all my homework in highschool while sitting in a coffee shop.
The reason a stimulant helps in cases of ADD is that part of the brain is working at a much higher rate than another part, and the result is often that the child (or adult) knows the answer but can't get it out. It's something like what happens in a car with a manual transmission if you try to shift into the wrong gear -- gears grind instead of meshing.
