ok - so then she does understand - i need clarification - but just remember what works for one does not work for all.
Part of the secret to losing weight is that if you are working out at the gym, do more aerobic exercises than weight training. aerobic exercises with increase the heart rate and metabolic rate. And the point is to increase the rtes such that you are burnign more than you take in on a day to day basis. If you do strictly weight training then in essence you are going to get stronger without losing much if any weight, and could quite possibly gain weight due to muscle tissue being so much more dense than fatty tissue. An optimum routine would require a day of aerobic work out, followed by a quarter/half aerobic and half/three quarter weight. followed by a day of aerobic followed by a day off to recover. rinse wash and repeat the routine. Unless you are a professional working out more than 4 days in a row without allowing your body some recovery time is going to hurt you in the long run. The above routine will allow you to increase your metabolic rate while maintaining a high enough level of musclar development to prevent the body from starting to break down the muscle tissue instead of the fat tissue. Thanks for clarifying this to those who may have thought I could not identify with the weight loss struggle  Total as of tonight is 141.6 pounds lost. I am 16.2 pounds from my goal :hurray::hurray::hurray:
My doctors nurse has lost over 300 lbs. She was 457 and is down to 150. She said she did it by diet and walking only. Isn't that unbelievable?? Good Luck:hurray::iagree:
Didn't have lapband, but did have gastric bypass I had gastric bypass January 2007, so I am about 2.5 years postop. I went from 287 to 151 and I fluctuate about 5 pounds. After I lost most of my weight I did start getting sick a lot, one thing after another and I realized that my immune system was shot. I'm not a doctor, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I think that a lot of the overeating/weight gain postop is that it is difficult to get the amount of nutrition that the body requires once all the stores have been depleted and so people began grazing (eating constantly) and just falling back into the bad habits that they started out with. A friend gave me a nutritional supplement, it's was liquid, only one ounce, and has a lot of the superfruits and minerals, etc. in it. I know this is going to sound like a shameless plug but it really did make a difference. I took it every day for over a month and was really thankful that my body seemed to be responding. I decided to start selling it because of the huge difference I saw in my energy level, my decreased munching, and just my overall feeling better. To those that have posted about friends/family members who have had gastric bypass or lap band and are currently struggling, if you want to talk about what's going on send me a PM because I would love to talk and find out if I can help out. Our nutrition is going to have to come from different areas then what "normal people" can consume and I just hate hearing about people that are unhappy and are gaining back the weight. WLS (weight loss surgery) is NOT easy and I know the heart ache, disappointment, and frustration that comes from thinking that you did something this drastic to your body and you failed again by gaining the weight back.
For clarification about my sister gaining the weight back after the Phentermine, it was due to her emotional eating. It wasn't until after the gastric bypass that she finally went to counseling to deal with the reason for the overeating, and got a divorce, that she was truly able to change. Seriously though, that Phentermine stuff is amazing. I was only on it for a few weeks, but I lost about 15 pounds and had no trouble keeping it off. I don't doubt that if I could find a gp down here and get a prescription (with a healthy diet and exercise) I could lose the weight.
Hi everyone. I don't have experience with this topic, but I wanted to throw something out there for folks to think about. As it has been said, the same thing doesn't work for everyone, because everyone's body is different and handles things differently. On March 31st, my healthy and beautiful 25 year old cousin did not wake up from her sleep. She was found in bed that morning with a syringe next to her bed. She had started a weight loss program 2 weeks prior and had given herself the 2nd prescribed injection the night before. She would have graduated this past Saturday with her Radiology class, and she was engaged to be married on August 1st. She was trying to lose 30lbs FAST, before her wedding and had gone to a legitimate weight loss clinic here in NC that her fellow nurses at the hospital she worked recommended because they had used it too. The drug was too much for her system, but who could have known, right? She was by no means overweight, but you ladies know how it is getting married and looking perfect in your dress on that day. We all thought she was beautiful, inside and out. Even her fiance tried to talk her out of it as he loved her for the amazing person she was. We all did. I put this out there to just have people truly think about the risks of some of these things. Nine times out of ten, I'm sure nothing happens. But that 1 time it does, it could be you or a loved one. Our family has been devastated by this tragic accident and the saddest thing is that it could have not happened at all. For those of you looking for ways to lose weight other than exercize and proper nutrition, good luck to you and I hope you make the right decisions for you and your family. I consider myself of "okay" weight for my height and lost 25lbs since July 08. I'd love to lose another 25lbs this year and end up about 140lbs(I'm 5'7"). I lost my weight thru exercize, reducing sweets and soda, and reducing portion size. For those going the gym route, it took 3 months before I saw the lbs start dropping on the scale and once they started it was easy. You become motivated then. Again, good luck to you all and stay strong.
That is truly tragic and i am so sorry for your loss:grouphug: Hopefully others out there will read it though and it may save some lives.
That is our one hope out of this, Kaci, is that others will think twice. Her hospital division was notified by our family immediately and a mandatory staff meeting was called to let these girls know what happened. Of course we can't go after the doctor because my cousin had literally "signed her life away" with all the papers. But what we think happened is that she didn't follow the strict eating/dieting regime that came with the injections. She didn't take a break the day before she died to eat. Her fiance and autopsy reported validated this. Ladies, if you are taking these pills or any medication to lose weight, please please please don't skip meals!!! These medications are meant to drive your metabolism up. That's why you feel as though you've drank a pot of coffee as someone mentioned. Not eating on top of that puts your body in extreme danger of having a meltdown. Do think twice about it. And thank you all for your condolences. We are a strong family and will get thru this, but it hasn't been easy. I am just 28 yrs old myself and have never experienced a blow like this to my family. I'm sorry for the thread highjack but I felt it important to do a PSA given what we've been through.
