The boundaries for the alcohol vote were Cleveland township. Boundaries include Swift Creek, Dickinson Rd., Middle Creek, and the Wake County line. If you vote in one of the three Clayton precincts, you are inside those boundaries. The area being incorporated does not necessarily have to include the entire township.

Just had a brainstorm for the name - what about Clevelands? Everyone considers us the Cleveland community but there is a place called Cleveland, what if we just add an "s" on the end and considering the fact of how fast our community is growing, we will be a whole lot better known that the other "cleveland", wouldn't that be a great compromise for both the newbies and the oldies?

I could get on board with that.

So if we're Cleveland Township for voting purposes - can we be incorporated as such? Would make things much simpler!

    un namen

    I'm sticking to my guns.
I still like the name THAU'S PASS. It does not make us sound so citified or commercial. I personaly like the open spaces around here, It is quite lovely if I do say so myself.
Sorry bout the Cleaveland fans. Ya see what I mean ? Cleaveland something : Reminds me of Cleveland OHIO. Never been there but am told it's nasty. What we need is something that is more genuine down to earth, like the people here . The name THAU'S PASS sounds country , rustic and most definatly not like a city.
That's my opinion. Of course evry one has one and is intitled to one. That's why we are here aint it ?:grouphug:

    How about Cloverfield?

Oh, sorry, that's another thread. ;)

    Maybe Tobaccofield? Cottonfield? Tobacco Road?

I don't see any mountains around, so I'm not sure about calling it a Pass, and Thau doesn't sound like one of those old JoCo names. I did google that suggestion the first time it was posted. The first link I clicked on put me into an endless loop, and I had to shut down my browser to get out of it, hence my earlier comment.

    Sounds like a laxative.

Kind of goes with the N&O Columnists opinion of our community "Butt Ugly, NC".

Johnston, Johnston, NC? Sounds like something SS would name it.

Also brings back the last episode of the Bob Newhart show where explains about the two Woodsmen "Daryl & Daryl".

I looked at the Johnston GIS map. The Cleveland township excludes McGee's and other areas. As I 've been thinking about this, I also know that we'll need someone to lead this (GCCC comes to mind) to serve as the day to day controller/scheduler. The municipal services we'll need to consider appear, at first, daunting: Sewer, police (which can be contracted thru JCSO until we could get our own up and running, etc.
But, seeing that Eastover in Cumberland County recently completed their process, it seems like we could always invite some of their movers and shakers to a GCCC sponsored meet and query session.

This is all dependent, however, on a consensus..one way or the other. I am unsure that the board reflects a representation of the township of Cleveland. Perhaps a mailing of some sort to invite people to weigh in on it would be a first step in determining the interest level of this.

It seems to me that before we can even entertain the idea of asking people to vote on incorporating, we need to find out if it's an option to begin with.

I know that the reason some of us moved here was because of the absence of taxes and municipal baggage. I also believe that it's only a matter of time before Clayton comes around to us, and through its sheer weight, sucks us in. When that happens, we've become a small voice of the established power structure, rather than speaking as the emerging provider of land based tax revenue for the county. I'm sure that the western areas of JoCo bring in far more revenue than those in power would admit. I, for one, am tired of having the discussion Smithfield-Selma centric, or playing to the urbanized tunes fist, and those of us on the fringes to be dictated to, but never allowed to make a change.

If Cleveland Crossroads, NC will not gain a popular vote ... how about Cleveland Township, NC??? It defines the area and maintains some of the heritage.

Archer Lodge — More than enough people here have signed a petition saying they want to become a town.
In order to present an incorporation petition to state lawmakers, the Archer Lodge Municipal Exploratory Committee needed about 300 signatures.
So far, the committee has 350, said Carlton Vinson, president of the group. At least 15 percent of the 2,000 or so registered voters in the proposed borders of the town must sign, he said.
"We have enough right now to qualify," Vinson said.
But the committee wants 25 percent to 35 percent of registered voters to be on board, Vinson said. Some committee members have been going door to door asking for signatures, and residents can sign the petition from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturday and Jan. 26 at the Community Center.
Vinson hopes the Legislature will hear the community's request during the spring session. If the area incorporates, voters will likely elect town leaders in 2009.
The tax rate would be 8 cents per $100 valuation. That's a lot less than Clayton's rate, which is 54 cents. Vinson said he hasn't heard many complaints about the proposed tax rate. Lots of residents, though, are asking about schools, he said.
Town limits don't dictate where students attend school. The county's school board decides that.
If it becomes a town, Archer Lodge will likely provide four of these five services: fire protection, police protection, zoning, water distribution and trash pick-up. The town would have about a two-mile radius and would be 12 to 16 square miles, Vinson said. To see a map of the proposed boundaries, go to www.incorporatearcherlodge.com.

    I like Cleveland Township too.

Any idea how many people live in the proposed area and how many signatures we would need?

I like Cleveland Springs best, but I guess we could be called East Cleveland, since we are east of the other one near Winston Salem.

Yup, and I hear that is what the locals call it. No point in reinventing the wheel, er township.
