Most of the time when I get "free checks", "free prizes", I simply tear them up and put in File 13. Now my slighly not so smart DH, will run to the dealership and come back disappointed or sometimes a free football or flashlight.
It's more than airfare and port fees. To get a reservation, I have to pay $35. Did you not read my posts? I talked to the NCDOJ and they said it probably was illegal. As far as "if it wasn't legal advertisers wouldn't publish it", that make about as much sense as, if it wasn't worth a lawsuit, lawyers wouldn't take the case. The advertisers aren't liable, so they're free to publish pretty much whatever the client wants.
I have just always gone by the old addage.... If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.. .I tear those offers up and throw them away too. Heck.. if I believed all the junk that came in the mail, I'd own 5 Harleys, be a millionaire 10 times over and have cruised around the world. They just hit the trash... very few things in this life are really free or without strings attached.
That's "probably" not "always", and you are selective. I'm sure you have no problem using coupons, right? I mean, if you believed so much in the adage, you wouldn't use anything that might sound like a good deal.
Have you called, Steve Matthews, the owner of Matthews Motors? He is a reasonable guy and would want to know what happened and would probably want to fix the situation and make sure it doesn't happen again. Sherry
Grocery coupons are not a scam.... lets stick with apples to apples. I suppose when you go on vacation to any resort/vacation hot spots that you fall for the guys/gals who want you to come take a tour of their properties too. You know the ones that promise you a tv, or vacation, or entertainment coupons, just for touring and listening to the high pressure sales pitch? I think you had to know you weren't really going to get anything for totally FREE from dealership junk mail, but went down to Matthews Motors anyways, just to have something new to complain about.
Clif, I hate to hear that. We have bought several vehicles from them and have referred a boat load of people as well.
Talked to him in person at the time I was given the certificates. He was one of the ones who quickly dismissed me when I suggested that the paper was misleading. And not every contest is either. If that is understood at the time of the contest, then yes. But there is always something in the fine print about the sales presentation. Matthews Motors advert did not have anything in the fine print about it. And I think you are an idiot. I get mailers all the time from different car lots in the area (mostly from Deacon Jones). In all cases, except for this one, there is some indication somewhere (usually in the fine print) that states in one form or another that you are not really a winner, or what you won is not really what is shown. But the Matthews Motors advert was different enough that it looked legit. Nothing anywhere on the paper indicated that I did not win exactly what it said I won.
So I've heard from you and others. In the past I have "won" a free oil change (too good to be true?), which they have honoured without question and without a sales pitch for anything else. This is one reason why I was a bit [perturbed that I felt scammed.
I bet TV Cameras would change their mind Clif. Like the others suggested. 5 On your side. It will probably lead to a bigger story of other area dealers and marketers fibbing to the public. Just to get you in the door.
That's good, I'd like to know what happens. If this is a scam, I CERTAINLY won't refer anyone else to them.
Thanks for letting us all know, i get those things in the mail all the time, throw them away and if you can stop that junkmail cause it it bogus i would really appreciate it.
I hate to hear that Steve dismissed it. We contacted ABC's Trouble Shooter once because I purchased a futon over the internet for my daughter's birthday month's in advance and it did not arrive. Called the company and they stated they had shipped it, called the trucking company and they could not find it. Anyhow, cameras rolled at our house and showed my daughter looking out the front door for a truck. ABC contacted the futon and shipping company and I'll be darned if it did not show up in a day and I got a full refund. ABC came back and filmed my daughter and a friend on the futon she received because of them. My neighbors and friends called for weeks telling us they saw us on television and how cool it was.
