The thing about the Meth is that, like Kimmie said earlier, it is more likely that you will get addicted to it in the beginning chasing that first time high. That makes it an INSTANT danger IMO. Also, how do you know if you will be in the group Clif says will not become addicted? Alcohol can be very dangerous too. But that's only if you abuse it. For that matter, food can be very dangerous to your body...if you abuse it. Too much alcohol, body pays a price. Too much food, body pays the price. Moderation is the important thing to remember. Sounds to me like taking meth only ONE time is taking a HUGE risk of becoming instantly addicted. I'd be terrified to try it.
I think, I don't know and I'm not speaking for Clif, I think his point was Meth is a stimulant, so you can do meth and it just makes you more alert, you can drive and appear functional, just maybe always in a hurry whereas an alcoholic who drinks and then drives.....well, yaw know the rest.
I know, and during the intervention when they were crying... I don't know why I torture myself with that show. It breaks my heart to see people get trapped by addiction. I'm sure not one of those people ever thought they would become addicts. So sad. :-( I love the updates at the end when they've completed treatment and look happy and whole again. My heart will be beating a mile a minute when the update starts, and I've actually yelled out when it's a good ending. I hate it when they don't complete treatment and/or relapse. Remember that man, the former pro ball player, who choose his addiction over his two little girls. They didn't know where he was when they did the update.
Oh yes, I do see his point! Trust me, I was hit by a drunk driver and injured even worse by another drunk when I was younger. I have a healthy respect for the dangers of alcohol, especially driving drunk. I just think saying that because there are alcoholics, all alcohol is evil is like saying that becouse there are obese people, all food is evil. Or, maybe because criminals kill with guns, all guns are evil. It's not the substance in these three areas that is the problem, it is the USER or consumer of the substance causing the problem.
I was watching a documentary the other night and they explained why the teeth go bad. Seems the drugs makes you make less saliva, so then they have dry mouth and crave sweets (drinks and food) so the sweets 'attack' their teeth/gums (saliva would help wash the sugar away..) even the roots rot. And this stuff is made with crap like drano, acetone......thats why they get the sores and it attacks their organs. Very sad indeed.
DH and I were watching a 20/20 or something like that a couple of weeks back... can't remember exactly what it was. Anyway, it was about this college girl and her boyfriend. She was the picture of an all-American girl. Well, apparently her boyfriend was using meth and she decided to try it with him one weekend. They had been awake for days and he got lost while driving them home and got them stranded in a snowstorm out in the middle of nowhere. They had a cell phone and called 911 but weren't making sense to the operator and didn't stay put in the car like they were told to. He was talking to the 911 operator about coming up on some people who wouldn't respond to him, who just stared at them, so they decided to keep walking, looking for help. Days later, their bodies were found frozen in the snow. The 'people' who wouldn't respond to their pleas for help were cows in a pasture. It is believed to have been the girl's first time every trying meth.
Was the documentary called Crank: Made in America? I've seen that one and it said something like only 6% of all meth addicts will be successful at kicking their addiction, that it was THE HARDEST drug habit to kick. As a mother of 4, that is some kind of scary!
No, it was called something like Life or Meth. Scary....I know, I've told my son a milllion times...PLEASE do not EVER try crap like this, not even one time!! He's seen people that he used to go to school with that have gotten messed up with drugs and stuff, so I don't think he would, but you never know... When I think about all this, along with all the drop-outs, kids having kids and not getting educated...etc, I really worry about our future generations.
The good part is that we can change the channel! There is just no way that I could sit through an entire hour of some of the ones we have switched from in the first few minutes.
I've never changed the channel, I think I've watched every one ever made. I watch it because I don't want to be naive about what is out there. Since I have kids, I need to know what to be on the lookout for.
OMG....I saw that one.....she was laid out in the FRONT YARD with her kids there .....OMG....so disturbing...
I think I remember hearing that too. That is just so tragic. And that's what I was talking about too, how just ONE time can ruin your life. Their poor parents. So sad! p.s. I had to run yesterday when we were chatting about this because DH brought me roses and a balloon for my 40th  We went out with the kids and had a blast!
The young couple that was found in the snow frozen was in Nebraska. They weren't found for almost a week either. They were hallucinating so bad that they didn't even know where they were.
