It also makes the tax you pay extremely transparent. Does anyone really know exactly how much they paid in taxes last year? There is a number on your tax return, sure, but you've also paid imbeded taxes in the products and services you've purchased that you could never account for. Also, when politicians would raise taxes, everyone would know it - even if they didn't pay attention to the news, they would see it at the checkout counter. There is no way to hide a tax that is completely visible. More as a side benefit, this would make increased spending more difficult - or at least there would be more accountability - as there would need to be a good reason for raising the tax. The amount of power that would be taken from the government when the FairTax is passed would be monumental - like Stone Cold said, it would be revolutionary. Taxes should be collected for the sole purpose of running government - not as a tool to exert power. No tax system is perfect, but, IMO - for what it's worth, the FairTax is far better than an income tax system could ever be.
Hey, I thought this thread was about music. Well, anyway, here's 5 I thought of that I have played over and over and over back in the day, including a rather obscure selection or two: Pink Floyd -- Dark Side of the Moon Santana -- Moonflower The Beatles -- Abbey Road The Who -- Who's Next The Alan Parson's Project -- Tales of Mystery and Imagination Snuff
For compilations here are my top 5 Billie Holiday - The Decca Collection Taj Mahal - The best of B52's - Nude on the moon Talking Heads - Sand in the Vasciline Santana - Dance of the Rainbow and already mentioned but a fav - The Clash - London Calling
Actually the majority of mine are on vinyl (except Billie and the Clash) and purchased the best of's for car and iPod use. Found that I am just to lazy to go into my office and spin the vinyl and have not went through the effort to rip the vinyl yet (don't even want to think of how many Gigs that would take).
Did not consider it a negative comment at all. Just that my 6am flight has been pushed back to 11:15 and the Gulfport-Biloxi airport is nothing but drywall right now. If it wasn't for the free wireless I would be climbing that drywall.
Actually, I was leaving off "best of.." albums, but I still would have picked Moonflower. Double set, with about 1/2 being live recordings. Carlos goes up about 3 or 4 notches when he performs live. And the studio tracks on that one, wow. Send me off to a deserted island with Moonflower and something to play it on, and I'll be happy until i starve to death.
I thought we were doing rock & roll. I have another list if you want to do jazz: Miles Davis -- Kind of Blue Dave Brubeck Quartet --25th Anniversary Reunion Weather Report -- Heavy Weather Al DiMeola, Paco DeLucia, John McGlaughlin -- Friday Night in San Francisco Chik Corea -- Friends BTW, I liked your list Snuff
If we are talking rock my 5 favs are: 1 Back In Black, AC/DC...The Best R&R record, EVER! 2. Metallica, Master of Puppets 3. Judas Priest, British Steel 4. Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast 5. Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath
