I completely understand where you're coming from. We got the little guy from a family that had to get rid of him do to health issues within the family. My wife searched all the shelters and rescue sites in the area that she could find when she came across Coco. He's been a source of much love for our home. Like I said, we're only considering it. If we decide not to do it, I have no problem taking him to the vet. Mike
Are the prices the same do you know? It's not for me, more or less for my sister and her kittens. I'm trying to help her out. I guess I can call lol. sheri
My niece called today about her dog and cat and got a recording saying Wake Co. SPCA....business hours are Wed-Fri.... There was no mention of making apptmts. Any help?
It is a module unit and it apparently got held up along the road due to power lines being too low?? So it was delayed. I THINK it got there yesterday (was supposed to but I have not confirmed) So I imagine they are running a few days behind. Yes, the prices are as I posted. I know there is someone answering that phone, but sometime if she is on the other line, or they are closed you will get the automated system.
Why are there so many Chihuahuas dumped? I used to think it was their dispositions but all the ones i have met lately have been beyond sweet.
Sorry Mike, but chocolate is far from rare. Even if it were true, anyone who breeds specifically for color is a BAD breeder. A reputable breeder breeds for health and temperament. See page 14 for the color info. on the link below - everything you wanted to know about Chihuahuas but were afraid to ask. . . http://media.wiley.com/product_data/excerpt/46/04700379/0470037946.pdf BTW - a reputable breeder will only breed champion stock (a dog that has been shown and has accumulated all of it's points)
I just got off the phone with the Wake cty S/N clinic. Due to the powerline problems earlier, they aren't accepting public appointments until Jan 09 Guess I'll take baby girl to her reg vet.
Could you use one of the mobile units such as SNAPS? roughly about $120 or so for dogs and cheaper for the cats.
Safe Haven for Cats in Raleigh has a great spay/neuter clinic. We've used them and paid $100 for an exam, surgery, Revoliton flea/tick spot-on, feline leukemia test, rabies & distemper shots, and a delayed shot for pain that would work for 2 days (or something like that). I think the surgery and initial exam by their vet is $65 for a feline. http://www.safehavenforcats.org/SpayNeuterClinic.cfm#ClinicFeesServices I just looked....their prices have increased slightly, but still a good deal, and I would definitely recommend them. My neighbors and I took some stray cats that had been dumped in my neighborhood to them, I kept one of the cats and she's a happy and healthy kitty! Because they are also a no-kill shelter and had room in their facility, they were able to take the other cats in and find them homes too.
Thank you for the info. It would appear we were misled by the previous owners. We've never been able to verify his shots (had to start from scratch), he had 2 different worms that had to be treated, and we've never heard from the breeder that the previous owners got him from. Regardless, he's been a great addition to our family as he is a very loving and playful little guy. We'll more than likely get him fixed when we can afford it. We just spent a small fortune on vet bills just to get him feeling better. Mike
I had a cat show up. I wasn't planning on adopting a cat, but this little guy had other ideas and has wormed his way into our hearts. So, I called to make him an appt to get neutered. They told me that they weren't able to start this program until this January because of construction delays. So, we're on the list for an appt. It's definitely a great deal. The vocher program is $46 for male cats and this is $30. Plus, they'll give him a rabies shot for $5-$8 additional. Thanks for letting us know about this!
Over the past few weeks I've noticed a spay/neuter mobile clinic set-up once a week or so next to the McDonalds on hwy 70 in Clayton. It's in the parking lot that used to be Winn-Dixie. Not sure of the name or how often they are there, just seems that every time I am at American Hero the trailer is set-up in the parking lot. Craig
http://www.snap-nc.org/ you may want to use this low cost service. they have a link for pricing and their calendar. i have used this for my cat and dog. i was very pleased with the services provided and i would recommend them to anyone.
Tomorrow is their first day doing SPCA animals at the new clinic. I have my fingers crossed! It should be open to the public in the next few weeks.
That is good news. I know my sister has a couple od kittens and my brother too. Let us know how it goes if you find out. Sheri
