That sounds just like my DH.. the same 158-163 lbs no matter what he eats, and we've all read his lunch menus!
This explains it better than i can. http://www.menshealth.com/cda/artic...item=9eb32b15f7cfc110VgnVCM10000013281eac____
Give me $25,000, a personal trainer, personal chef (to make it all taste better) and all the free food that comes with it...it would work for me too.
I've lost about 70 pounds on the nutrisystem diet! It does work. I've lost 110 over the last two years. I did nutrisystem last summer and when I stopped, I just carried over my eating habits and portion sizes. I've maintained that weight loss for over six months. I'm back on it right now to loose a little more before the summer. There ARE some foods that are really bad to me. BUT there are a lot that are not. And I'm picker than a three year old with my food. They have changed their menu of offerings-even since I did it last summer. They have a support system online and you can do it even if you don't purchase the food. That's at nutrisystem.com The support online with others is awesome! Anyone interested it let me know I can email you a $30 off coupon. 8)
I was on NutriSystem for four months and lost 45 lbs. It really does worked for me. Not only you have to eat their stuff alone, but you must buy fruit and veggies to go along with it. There is a great booklet for you to keep in track of. For example, NutriSystem's lasana that you popped in the microwave. You must add 1/2 cup of cooked veggie, one roll with one slice of butter, etc. I've tasted most of it and I would say that 50% are tasty and other 50% aren't tasty. You just have to taste all and see which one you like, then stick with it. After four months and I met my goal, I stopped using it and sticked with food measurement. One cup of my homemade spaghetti is the same amount of NutriSystem package. I still use the tracking book. It helped. On the negative side, I noticed that most of their foods are VERY HIGH in sodium. My nails had gotten brittle alittle and my friend, who was on NS same time as me, noticed that her hair had gotten thinner. We think it has something to do with high sodium. Our doctor think it has something to do with sodium. Check with your doctor before starting on NS. If someone ask me if I would do it all over again, I would say NO. I'll do it ONCE because NS taught me how much foods I should eat and what I should avoid.
I have a cheap alternative for Nutri system. Step 1: Tonight at dinner look at your plate of food. Step 2: Walk over to the trash can. Step 3: Scrape 1/3 of the food into the garbage. (Don't consider this as wasting food. If you ate it and didn't need it you wasted it.) Step 4: Go for a walk. I guarantee you won't starve to death.
I appreciate all the input. My mom has been talking about NS for years. She's mobility limited and can't excercise, but would like to lose weight. She's also diabetic with a long list of other health problems as well. I just wanted to hear some first hand experience.
My roommate is doing that right now, she has lost some weight, but that stuff she eats smells nasty as much as it looks nasty. I watch her sometimes and the faces she makes lol. I don't think it's worth the cost of it. Sheri
I wonder if you could do as well just getting some Healthy Choise or Lean Cuisines and adding fruit & veggies as needed? Problem for me is, I despise most of those "frozen dinner" things. I've discoverd that the Fiber One Chewy Bars (Oats & Chocolate) are wonderful and I am eating those for breakfast. Not good for a low carb diet, but I more concerned with total calories. Only 140 per bar and only 90 mg of sodium and they are quite filling.
fiber 1 are great but the special k strawberry are off the hook!!!! love them!! hc the lc dinners.....hard to find ones that you like, but when you do stick with them. i would think you could get the same results also.
I get a lot of those "frozen dinner" things cause i hate to cook, but I'm always still hungrey after I eat them. Sheri
Jen...they have a diabetic program and a silver program. Your mom wouldn't have to do the same foods as the regular program. The nutrisystem foods are not frozen. Almost all of them are dehydrated foods, lunch bucket type foods, or energy bar type. My typical order tends to have most of the cereals, pancake mixes, powdered eggs, and scones for breakfast. I lean towards the lunch bars for lunch because I'm not a soup bucket kindof eater. And for the dinners I buy up a lot of the hamburger patties, pizzas, macnchesse, and pastas. I do a variety of things with the burgers, add my own toppings to the pizza, and add cheese (according the diet) to the pasta. The deserts top off the program. My favorites are the cookies. The chocolate stuff is good too, but you have to realize that it is meant to be diet. However, I have compared labels before and some regular candy bars have the same calories. It's what they don't put in the NS desserts that make them better. They are very filling. The NS diet is based on you having 1200 calories a day following the plan of NS foods and adding in your food from home according to the plan limits. You should have salad everyday (with fatfree dressing), skim milk and/or other dairy products, proteins, and fruits daily. The NS foods are formulated to add a lot of protein, good carbs, and necessary fat to satisfy you in small portions and small calories. I challenge anyone to look at the labels of things that they eat all day. You will be amazed at how many calories you are putting in your mouth. Changing the way you eat and look at the food you are putting in your mouth will make a big difference. At restaurants if you are eating more than a third of what they serve you then you are eatting too much for that meal. I quickly found that out when I took a break from the program last year. I'm not saying NS is the only way to diet, but it did help me. I have tried WW and it changed my way of eatting. It didn't change my portion size and over all look at the way I eat like NS did. On WW you can have just about anything as long as you count the points. Theoretically I would skimp on points all day to have a bigger dinner or something I wanted when we went out. You can't do that cause your body will be in starve mod during the day if you are not getting what you need. The NS balances out throughout the day your intake. And yes...there have been several things I've tried that were just not my cup of tea. That's why I stick with the foods that I know I can change up and make work with whatever I'm fixing the family as well.
