I've always done my turkey in the oven, either in a roasting pan or inside the cooking bag. This year I've seen these electric roasters all over that advertise they can cook a big turkey. Has anyone used one? My daughter is cooking this year and I thought this may be a smart idea to get her if it tastes the same as in the oven. That way her oven would be freed up for all the other things that need to be baked in there. Please let me know if you have used one of these roasters for a turkey or anything else.
    Thanks!

Grilling is the way to go.

Season your turkey however you wish, put in a basting pan with about 1-2 inches of broth or water. Cover in foil. Put in grill.

Every hour or so, go turn the pan around. DON'T take the foil off, DON'T baste it!

Perfect every time! LOVE grilled turkey!

Dumb question, how do you know it is done if you don't take the foil off? How long per pound, at what approx. temp? I've done it before without foil and we loved it but the breast was a little dry.

You would follow the per pound instructions that come with the turkey just like if you're cooking it in the oven.

And when I say, don't take the foil off, I mean all the time. The more you lift the foil, the more moisture it loses.

    Cooking Turkey

I cooked one last year in a plastic bag. (You can buy them at the grocery store) It came out very moist and was no trouble at all. Just put it in the bag, place it in the oven, and cook! Very good.
