When my kids first started elementary I used to be in that kind of line, usually 20min, my kids were "walkers" and I usually walked down and walked back with them, it was a busy road, but if it rained hard I would just drive down. Once they were a little bigger, I let them walk home together by themselves.
What drives me crazy is the cars that line up on 42 to pick kids up at West Clayton. They "park" in the turn lane to the school and then when the lane is taken up they pull off 42 on to the shoulder to park but usually not enough to keep the thru traffic from backing up. This happens a lot at the beginning of each school year for some reason. I yelled out the window one time to the principal attempting to direct traffic that he needed to get those people out of the way. He frantically screamed back at me that he had tried but they don't listen. DB's wife
Up front, let me state, I ain't got no dog in this fight. Instead of all these parents wasting gas and time just waiting; why couldn't 1-2 parents ride each bus for the route. Any of the little angels that act up lose bus priviledges and their model citizen/parent get to wait in line. I know, I don't have kids, so I will never understand. Af some point reason and intelligence should enter the equation.
We do carpool because my kids get home at 4:05 that way. The bus gets to our stop at 4:50. I do carpool with a neighbor and she is there early because she comes straight from work. It is just what works best for some people. Why should anyone care if other people choose to sit in carpool line?
thank you momof3 girls. I drop my kids off and pick them up everyday. I don't work a full time job and that is my choice. I enjoy my 20min in the car line. I read or bring my laptop,it is really peaceful and I've never minded a little peace and quiet. I personally do not like buses. Children in a bus with no seat belts just scare me. Buses are the perfect places for bullies to act out. Yes, I know that I could have a wreck in my car with my kids but at least they would be buckled in and I would not have to have a heart attatck getting a phone call that my kids bus was in a wreck. I have been behind elementary and middle school buses and things were being thrown out the windows. I've seen an apple, a notebook and all kinds of litter being thrown out. Kids walking around on the buses. Just watch what is happening next time you are riding behind one. It's really no one's business if people want to pick their children up or let them ride the bus, It's a personal decision.
My kids ride the bus sometimes and are car riders sometimes. I tried the getting there first stuff a couple of times, but my little one couldn't take the wait for my older kids.
