Went by (at a crawl) 15 minutes after it happened... not a lot of flames but some smoke...fire, rescue and police from EVERYWHERE (no one was left out)....even Garner Fire showed up. Traffic was diverted up Main St. Should be cleared out for travel before rush hour. They'll have to tear down and start over. So sad...
Interviewing rescue workers now. Not sure if there are more fatalities. Just know that there is one confirmed. Haven't removed the body because they are still waiting on rescue from Raleigh and they are not sure if the bldg is safe to enter.

Plane crash McCalls resturant in Clayton Last I heard about the plane crash in Clayton is that it hit McCalls resturant in the front an hour before they open. The people inside where in the back so no one got hurt in the resturant. There was one killed. From what I heard on the news sounded like it was the person in the plan that got killed. The plane almost went right for hwy 70 but made a turn and thats when it hit McCalls. Someone that saw the plane flying low said it sounded like the plane was having some engine trouble. That had to be pretty scary and wild to see something like that happen. I am glad everyone is ok Things didn't turn out so good for the person flying the plane though. That's sad Things could have been worse though. The plane could have hit hwy 70 with all them people on the road or it could have hit the resturant during lunch hour. Good thing that didn't happen. Keep watching the news for more details I am sure all of us will find out more later.
WOW... I had no idea thats what happened even after I read the previous 8 pages on the subject..
Capn Stanley's in Garner on Hwy 70 And if she ain't happy with that, then tell her the "other thing" that you have mind to tell her, lol.
This is off the wral website about the plane crash in Clayton Clayton — One person was killed Friday morning after a single-engine plane crashed into McCall's BBQ and Seafood Restaurant in Clayton, authorities said. The plane crashed at around 10 a.m. at the restaurant, located at 10365 U.S. Highway 70 West. Dwayne West, EMS director of Johnston County, said one person died in the crash, but it's not known if it was the pilot. The Federal Aviation Administration registry lists the plane as a fixed-wing North American Navion built in 1947. Matt Lutz said he was sitting in traffic when he saw the plane coming from the clouds. He said he believed the plane tried to veer away from traffic before it bounced on the parking lot and crashed into the restaurant. Eyewitnesses said there is a field of debris in the restaurant's parking lot and the front wall of the building was ripped off. The body of the plane is still in the restaurant. An Urban Search and Rescue team from Raleigh is examining the wreckage of the crash. Authorities said 10 employees were in the kitchen area, located in the back of the restaurant, at the time of the crash. All of the employees have been accounted for, and none was injured. Terry Tyner, the restaurant's general manager, was sitting in his office working on a catering order when he heard an explosion. "I didn't know what happened. It blew me back in my chair. The ceiling fell down and the fire was flying, coming out of the ceiling. Tyner said he pushed away the insulation that fell from the ceiling and left the building with the other employees. Patricia Alton said she was standing on her balcony at a nearby apartment complex when she saw the plane go into the building. "I could tell the plane was too low. I looked up and there he was tipping the trees at the back of my balcony and sailing very fast. The engine was wide open," she said. The cause of the accident is not yet known, but eyewitnesses said they thought the plane had engine trouble. WRAL meteorologist Chris Thompson said there was low visibility in the area at the time of the accident. Fifteen fire and rescue crews and 20 police units responded to the accident scene. The crash occurred approximately eight miles away from the Johnston County Airport. It is not yet known if the plane was heading to or coming from the airport. McCall's serves breakfast only on weekends, but it does open for lunch on weekdays at 11 a.m. People were outside of the restaurant waiting in cars to go inside. Gordon Lee, who was at the scene, said the plane crashed to the right of the front entrance of the restaurant. Kevin McLamb of Hudson Hardware said his business is yards away from McCall's, and he heard an explosion and felt an aftershock. Traffic on U.S. 70 is moving slowly in the area. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible
Be nice! There are ALOT of posters on this subject and this person may not have had time to go through ALL of them and see who said what. I don't go through ALL of them myself and I'm sure there are others that don't. They are being informative and I for one appreciate it!!
Actually, when I saw "Plane Crash" and "McCall's BBQ" the first thing I thought of was the Goldsboro location. It took a second or so for it to sink in that it was the Clayton location. The Goldsboro location (which is the original restaurant) is right in the flight path of take-offs and landings for Seymour Johnson. Who would have ever though the one in Clayton would have a plane hit it? Anyway, it's certainly a shame to see the restaurant put out of commission for who knows how long. Hopefully, the steel structure survived without serious damage. I imagine if it were to require demolition, it would take considerably longer to get it back in operation.
