Anyone else remember the old VERY JOLF joke about the 2 drunks crawling on the train tracks:

Something like "Man, these Stairs go on and on...:

"And boy these hand rails are low..."

At least someone left a light on for us...

    Wham, Splat.

Remember to tip the wait staff,
    I'll be here all week...

Sorry, I had to go there.

I'm going to try to make it. I understand that the issue of closing some of the crossings are still open for debate.

The meeting was quite interesting, but in my opinion it should have not happened tonight. The controversy seems to be over the roads being closed. The people I spoke with thought that tonights meeting was to discuss just that. That was not the plan for the meeting and the people there were not prepared to answer questions.

I felt kinda bad for the people that attended and do not blame them for getting upset in the least. I also am disappointed that the meeting was run so poorly. Not that I would do better but I don't think they tried.

I also lost a little respect for the town mayor and town manager. One has proven to be quite rude and the other showed that he didn't have enough interest in what the people were saying to do a little research on the history of the project.

I thought the residents made some extremely interesting points, including one that in my opinion damaged the intent of the project.

But that is just my opinion.

Last night meeting was the charette

Sorry I was unable to attend but last nights meeting was the "charette". The purpose of the charette has been advertised in newspapers and in this original post.

"The purpose of the workshop is for NCDOT representatives to provide information, answer questions, and accept written and verbal comments regarding the proposed pedestrian underpass. The charette is an informal meeting to develop ideas and concepts on the function, aesthetics and specific location of the proposed underpass. We will engage & interact closely with the public to gather detailed input. Public input from these meetings is important, and will be used in the decision making process. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the above mentioned hours."

So I guess I could understand if Jody McLeod (Mayor) and Steve Biggs (Town Manager) were frustrated with attendees wanting to discuss the road closings last night. This was not the purpose of the charette.

After the first meeting they were able to identify there was a problem with the plan. Since there is a direct relation to the road being closed and the pedestrian bridge being built you can not solve one without solving the other. Those working on the project knew that and really did not anticipate the "charette" to actually happen.

You kinda had to be there to understand.

Perhaps the residents will be able to get some answers at the town meeting on the 22nd.

I got word this week that they are now looking at a vehicular underpass for this area. I think that will be a better answer.
