It's a 2007 Dodge Caliber. Throttle light came on a couple of weeks ago and the car bucked and almost shut off. Took it to my brothers work at AAA, and he said he needs the code reset ect ect first before anything and to call the dealership. So today the car wouldn't start and when I finally got it to start it wouldn't go over 10 miles per hour...which is everything it said it would do when I did some reading up on it..bucking and all. Had it towed to the dealers, and they called and said they fixed it, reset the code, cost 100 bucks plus the towing. Drove out of the dealers didn't even get on the highway and the Throttle light comes on and the car starts to stall.
Got it back to the dealer and now tomorrow they are going to take the Throttle body out and find out if I need to replace it. Said if I do it would be 300 hundred cause they said they would take the 100 I spent today towards the cost of replacing the Throttle body..I will know more tomorrow on what they find...but they felt it today, cause I was like did you even drive the car afterwards and they were like yeah in the parking lot and I'm like no go and give the darn car some gas and see what happends. Sure enough it happend to them as well. So it's now more then I have to spend, and I hope that isn't what it is. Any thoughts on it? Oh the car has 53,000 miles on it.

I assume its out of warranty, its only 1yr soon to be 2 yrs old, thats the thing with newer cars, they have sensors running sensors and a computer diagnosis is needed. I know advanced or auto zone will hook up a code reader to let you know what the problem is if a light comes on. Good luck. I hope that dealership is good its one I will be using if needed.

Yeah that was the reason for the Software update. I wanted them to do that first before they even looked at the Throttle body...

Yes it is, and I got a smart mouth from the dealership that I got it from saying well I guess you should have gotten the extended warranty (my car is not at that dealership).
A diagnosis was already run two weeks ago, and that was done by my brother, he is the one that said to do the Software update at the dealership cause he couldn't do that. He said do that first before you have them do anything else..cause sometimes that will fix it. Well it didn't.

What dealership? I've had extremely good luck with Capital Dodge down in Garner. I won't deal with Deacon Jones in Smithfield, period. You are scaring me, 'cause I really wanted to get one of those Caliber's this year. :?

Oh, and if you decide to get the work done by someone other than a dealer, stay the $%^& from K&W on O'Neil Street in Clayton. I used to recommend them, but they realy worked me over this year. I am SO done with them.

yep that is where it is, being fixed I hope. They also told me it was fixed when they called me to pick it up. That is when I told them driving the car around the parking lot isn't going to tell you it's fixed.
I wouldn't buy another one, not because of this problem..just that it has the such loud road noise and very bad blind spots as well. I did some reading last night and they said this a normal problem with the Calibers, but you never know when you read other forums if that is true or not. I asked the guy at the dealership and he said that my car was the second one they have had since they came out with the same Throttle problem.

I'm sorry that you had a bad time with them..normally my brother would have worked on it. But, he told me last night that it was a good price for what they are going to do..so for me to leave it there.

If it had only been once there, I would have just taken my lumps because everyone makes mistakes, but I've had a couple different issues there over the past couple years that have really soured me on them. The last one cost me a new engine. I can't prove it 100%, but it was a mighty big coincidence and the owner was completely unwilling to help us in any way, shape or form. I had major work done on a specific part, a couple days later on I-95 in Richmond on a Sunday night, the engine completely goes. Second mechanic says the original work was done improperly causing the engine to fail. This was also the diagnosis of the garage that the car was towed to in Richmond. It's his word against theirs. And I'm the one that got screwed.

It sure did! All's well that ends well, we got the car out of the shop a couple of months ago and it seems to be running just fine. A pure shame I had to tow it all the way back to our home town to get the work done in VA. (towed it from Richmond here thinking they would help us get it fixed. WRONG!) so then we took it to BIL's mechanic up in another part of VA. It was worth it, saved us approximately $2000. It wouldn't have been worth fixing otherwise. And the stress caused me to lose 10 pounds, LOL.

Got my car back today and it's all fixed. Now that I think on it, after driving it to a few places. I think this was a long time coming cause I just couldn't get over how smooth it sounded. It hasn't sounded like that for sometime or maybe it's just me.
Glad I got it back, don't know how anyone could deal with not having a car.
or having to depend on others.
