I had to pull out my 'droid and check what it said. I have two basic calculator apps (I downloaded one, not realizing the phone already had one). One app says 1, the other app says 41. What fun! (I still say 41.)
Look I was merely pointing out an interesting observation I found by mistake with my iPhone. I don't read the manuals so sniff that fart. No need to get snippy. This formula has been in debate for awhile.
I didn't even know you had an iPhone. I had presumed you were using iPhone as a generic term for "Smart Phone". I have the HTC that I mentioned and only included the iPhone comment as a bit of humour. Y'all really do need to lighten up a bit.
Ok so it may not be simple math... But you see how many people get different answers?? You would think "us" as adults would take this as simple math. But it's really not. Not when everyone feels they have the right answer.
It is simple math, however people have to remember how to do simple math and the highest order of operation gets processed first
****NEW CHALLENGE*** Someone come up with a real word word problem that would make this calculation make sense with the "correct" answer.
Forty people with an apple each are in a room. 40 (you can say 40 X 1 which equals 40) In come forty more people without an apple. + 40 X 0 Then one more person enters the room with an apple + 1 (as above, you can say 1 X 1 which is equal to 1) How many people with apples are in the room?
