I know I ask this every winter but I forget the answer the next winter so I'm asking again. If a car starts to slide in what direction does one turn the steering wheel? Thanks, Sherry
For you - in to oncoming traffic. :jester: Turn in to the slide to gain control...gently, once under control turn gently in the direction you want to go. Don't slam on the breaks. Use them as sparingly as possible. Make sure to leave enough room that you can stop with very little breaking.
1st dont slam on brakes!! 2nd I think it depends on whether you have a front wheel drive or a rear wheel drive vehicle.. I think if you have a rear wheel drive you turn into the slide? If you have a front wheel drive car you turn in the direction you want the car to go?? Someone correct me if I am wrong!!
Is this for real? We're supposed to travel North the morning after Christmas, it could be exciting. What does the brown in the North East mean, that it's going to be crappy?
Just don't make sudden movements period. I was always told to drive like I had an egg between my foot and the pedal.
Definitely don't accelerate suddenly to try to break out of a slide and go the other way, that will only cause the wheels to break loose and fish tail you further. I always drive on slick roads with my foot just giving enough gas to go at a safe speed, I don't care who is behind me, if they don't like it, they can pass me. Also, I always take my foot off the gas going over a bridge if I think it might be icy, I would rather coast over it slowly than give it more gas in an icy spot in error.
