Virginia Beach Girl...I'm Probably Considered A Yankee, Too Hello... I'm a Military Brat. Born in a Naval Hospital in Portsmouth. Lived Most Of My Life In Virginia Beach. Moved To Elizabeth City in The Late 80s. Really Liked North Carolina (Moyock and Nags Head Is Where The VA Beach Locals Go To Escape VA Beach Tourist Season), but Returned To Virginia For About 18 Years (Southwest Of Richmond). Met and Married My Best Friend And Lived In The Log Home He Built On 10 Wooded Acres In The Country. Have One Child That Is 9 Years Old. Moved To Johnston County in 2008 And Just Love It Here. I Am, Of Course, Female, 46 Years Old, Married 13 Years And Have A Dog (Mastiff) and Cat (Thinks She Is A Dog) That Both Stay Indoors. Before MovingHere, We Had To Find A Home For Our Beautiful Girls (Two Belgium Horses) and Pack Of Dogs (Mutts But We Loved Them). All Of Our Animals Have Come From Rescue Groups (Horses Came From "Hearts Desire Horse Rescue" in Jacksonville, NC). Since moving to Johnston County, I have been staying home. We had a Construction Business in Virginia. In Virginia, My Husband Was A Licensed "Master Electrician" But Here That Doesn't Mean Anything (He Took An Eight Hour Test To Obtain That License). He Had Worked In The Tobacco Business For 20+ Years (Not Counting His Life Raised On A Tobacco Farm) And "Retired" From His Job As Plant Engineer At A Tobacco Company In 2003. He Also Loves This Area. Now If We Can Make Our Child Happy!! See "Benson Elementary VS Meadow Elementary" Post in "Neighborhood" Section (private). Have A Great Day!!!:grouphug:
so cool, i grew up in Lynchburg VA but spent a lot of summers in VA Beach, had family there too, loved it. If you DH is a licensed electrician, he should have no problem finding work down here as long as he has the experience behind it, they seem to focus more on experience in NC than paper (my DH is electrician too). There are a few of us VA girls on here and yes, i was called a yankee when i first moved here even though i was born and raised South of Richmond, go figure:lol::lol:
Welcome! I lived in Hampton til I was 4. My Dad just moved from there to Hudgins a few years ago. I also have a 9 yo (and a 10yo) and have been married 13 years as well. And I'll be 45 in June. We've got some similarities but my life isn't quite as colorful.
I forgot to tell about myself here. I was just reading some of the posts and laughing about the yankee transplants and language problems. I will always say "cawfee" and "y'all" and "fixin to run and errand"! My parents were both born and raised in NC so I'm a true native. I have to say I have met the nicest Yankees here in the Cleveland area. My neighborhood might be 80% yankee. I used to be prejudice against yankees, but now I've learned the error of my ways! They have been nothing but sweet and kind to me. I'm originally from Raleigh. I grew up near Crabtree Mall/State Fairgrounds. We moved out here because we needed more land and you really do get more bang for the buck just one county over! I still miss the convenience of being in Raleigh. I miss being close to The Fresh Market, good restaurants, the mall, etc but it's a small sacrifice to live in a bigger house. Anyway, I'm a stay-at-home mama and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I wouldn't trade these years with my girls for anything! We lived here since July 2007. My husband runs a business. I work at Cafe Risque as a topless waitress on the weekends. JUST KIDDING! Oh, and in case you couldn't guess I am a huge Elvis fan!
Cafe Risque... LOL if you work there than its safe to say you aren't hitting on much:jester: Went in there after a day trip for golf at Myrtle and :ack::ack: Woody was like being in the ocean in January.. Maybe it was the day we went but the talent was horrendous.. Served us right I guess even going in there. With girls like that bouncers aren't needed.. :jester:
I was thinking about applying there. Well I guess I would fit right in - bet I get hired on the spot then. :jester:
Hi everyone, long time no see... 46 year old corporate software trainer and just starting my own business. Married 21 years, 3 children ages 23 (from my first marriage), 19 (proud member of The United States Army), and soon-to-be 16 year old (yikes!). I can't reveal the reason for my screen name, but it has to do with a former hobby. My avatar is the cenobite Pinhead from my favortite movie, who delivered what I consider one of the best movie lines ever... "Trick us again child, and your suffering will be legenday...even in hell!"
