In the movies, you can disguise your voice by putting a handkerchief over the phone. ;)

I would say that you're in the path of some frequency interference. Try to turn off your computer and other electronic devises and see if you lose the clicking noise. If it still does it call your telephone provider and have them check the pair that your line is on.

Our baby monitor can also pick up cordless phone conversations.
The clicking noice is just interference. Scanners only recieve. You could even have the phone company check to see if the wires are grounded.
Call the phone company and they will check it for free. Just my 2cents.

  5. thank you everyone. I would think that i'm just a paranoid nut, but when one neighbor told me he saw something in the "creepy" neighbors house, but wouldn't tell me because he didn't want to be involved in a criminal investigation, i thought there might be more to the clicking.

basically, this creepy neighbor (if he has a police scanner) could have been listening to my conversation when I was on the cordless.

So, I will just stick to land lines.

Also, is it legal to have a police scanner?

I called the phone company, and someone is "supposed" to get back to me tomorrow.

I don't know, this neighbor is really really weird.

    That is spooky also.
The thing is, I have been talking to landscapers about "BUSH'S" and replacing them with flowering shrubs and hardscape,
I don't know? Ya think? Now, I'm getting really paranoid

    Scanners, etc.

He could be doing more than listening. If you use your credit cards over the phone, enter your social security number for identification purposes, NCDL, banking, etc he can get all that info and steal your identity. Not to mention he can have all the numbers you have been calling, friends names, their info, etc.

Cordless phones are bad for all but the most innocent conversations

If you bought a newer phone hopefully it is digital which will most likely prevent snooping w/ a scanner.

Last I heard, '95ish, you could listen to a cordless phone conversation if:

    a) you did not divulge the contents of the conversation to any other person and
b)you did not use information you gained for personal profit.

The case that exemplified this was as follows: A guy, who happens to be a Jew is listening to his neighbor's cordless phone conversations on a scanner. The guy's neighbor complains to friends about his "kike" neighbor. The guy calls the cops and complains about his neighbor calling him "kike." Said guy is arrested for eavesdropping.

/Lent scanner to coworker. Coworker hears the manager of the local Sonic having affair w/ breadman. Coworker's wife then tells dad, esteemed citizen. Esteemed citizen then tells Sonic manager "I know you're having an affair w/ the breadman and you better watch what you say on your cell phone. Manager balls head off.
