I just read the whole thread. I wanted to make a clever response but now I have the word "Provolonie" stuck in my head.
If this word keeps me up tonight I swear I'll never come back here!!!

I'm going to go walk the dog.

I think anyone who cannot get use to other nationalities living, working, and breathing in the US are going to have a really miserable life adjusting. :?

Working daily with people internationally .... I am privileged to learn their customs, their language (when a get an extra minute), but most of all getting to know them as HUMANS. So they speak different ... big deal. Are there times where I have difficulty understanding them... of course, but I ask them to repeat or simply tell them, "I am having a little bit of a hard time understanding because of your accent." 99% of the time they have been very receptive. In return I have been asked the same ... Could you slow down.... Wasn't offended by it at all....

There are MANY times I have listened to Americans that I cannot understand .... some of my family at that. So it's not just limited to people from other countries.

How about people being more open minded to others that are not "just like me?" Diversity ...... there's a lot more to that word.

Zipping up flame suit and going to bed now..... I'm sure in the morning I'll be all burnt up.:lol::lol:

Oh and I love Subway! The chicken teriaki with grn peppers, tomatoes, banana peppers, mayo is the BOMB.

I truly don't have a problem, unless they are completely unwilling to learn. I think the world of several immigrants I know personally. They are here legally, work really hard and are just genuinely good people. For two of them, their employer took a stand against a really bigoted person today and I couldn't be prouder.

Naw, I aint gonna flame ya for this response. I am a little dissapointed though that so many folks are missing the original point... it's not about the folks from "out of town", it's about the company hiring so many of them to service each location in a profession where communication is key. May want to re-read my post. Believe it or not, this is still America and I don't think having a couple of English speaking people on staff is such a bad thing.

Put the flame suit away... I asked for some response and you did just that.

Are you saying that you would prefer that Subway used a quota system when hiring so they have some Caucasians at each locations or some blacks that speak Redneck?

    Funny face, I love you
    Funny face, I need you
These are the sweetest words I've ever heard
    Funny face, don't leave me
    Funny face, believe me
My whole world's wrapped up in you

And when I hurt your feelings as I sometimes do
And I say those mean things that we know are not true
    You forgive my childish way
You hold me close and say
"Funny face (funny face) I love you"

Well this stirs up another debate that has long been a hot topic. Most of the people that are NON US have these jobs because they are the only ones who will take the low wages it pays. YES, I know that is changing because Americans are no seeing that ANY job is a GOOD job to have as long as it pays something in today's economy. It's the same as the illegals who come here to make money in the fields because some Americans feel it is beneath them or the money is not worth the labor intensive job. Then there's the case of the employers who don't want to pay what some US citizens "demand" or ask for when working for them.

Yada yada .... this could go around in circles until Christ comes back to take us all, but my point is .... Being tolerant of those that are different, admitting that you have difficulty understanding them or God forbid maybe taking the first step in learning about THEIR culture / dialect is something WE could all do instead of complaining.

If I don't understand then I take the steps necessary for me too understand ... but personally I see it as something I lack so I educate myself.

Glad I didn't wear hairspray and I'm wearing flame retardent clothes today.:lol:

I'll leave that up to Subway to decide. Funny how Bojangles, Wendy's, Taco Bell/KFC, Burger King, and countless others in the fast food segment always have someone that us English speaking folks can talk to. Since they are operating right here in the Bible-belt, sounds like good business judgment to me.

Which, again, is the point. Why is this not a problem for so many other fast food chains in the area? I aint got no problems ordering a 2-pc white with dirty rice at Bo's. Do they pay that much more?
