What is the hype about this book? Because it describes kinky sex in detail? I'm not interested in reading it. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for America (especially women) getting in touch (literally) with their sexuality. Or if they were in touch with it not being afraid to admit to being a closet pervert (I do not use that term in a negative way in this case) now that something raunchy has become mainstream and acceptable. But the idea of being part of this mass American masturbation movement (I think I just coined a new term!) is not something I can get on board with. I applaud it and love that women are becoming sexually empowered by this book, but I'd prefer not to be getting hot and bothered by the same thing and at the same time as 4 out of 5 American grandmothers and housewives. I'm going to stick to the less mainstream porn thank you very much.
Actually, not everywhere, the local paper last week reported that Southeast Wake Regional Library will not be carrying this series, even though the books held the top three spots on the NY Times Bestseller list. Censorship at its finest. Wonder if our local Cleveland library will be carrying it? That might generate some library business for Ron
LOL! It wasn't "50 Shades" it was "Hope and Change". The only difference is that Obama couldn't get the job done literally - let alone figuratively - and it sounds like at least the book is leaving folks satisfied. Meanwhile the libs are left asking "you mean that's it?" while they leave their money on the nightstand  Hope. Change. Letdown.
Fifty Shades was a good series. The first book was great, the second book was good, and I found the third to be just okay. Loved the story, but the author grated my nerves. The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy is an excellent series, and written far more superior. Anne Rice is a very talented author.
Fifty Shades is NOT about 'kinky sex in detail'. The first book touches on dominant and submissive sexual roles and activity. And there is great sex between a couple in love, in detail (and some might be considered kinky, depending on who you are). The man (Grey) in the book has many deep seeded issues from being the child of a drug addict. The story is about his healing and finding the love of his life. HG, I got the books at Barnes and Noble. Laters baby!
Haven't read that one yet, but Karen Whites "Tradd St. trilogy" is a good series. We read one in book club, and then I read the other 2 on my own.
Girl, download the free kindle app on your phone from amazon, makes reading so easy no matter where you are. We are actually reading 50 shades in book club right now:cheers:
