My dd got a Nextel for Christmas. I had it set up before she got it to block texting and internet service. She doesn't even use the cell part of it except to call myself or her Dad, she uses the direct connect all the time, because all her friends have it. Thank God I've got two more years before she can drive (yes her cell has gps). We are probably going to have it installed on her car as well, because I WILL be one of those parents that shows up where she is supposed to be, and that way I'll know for sure where to show up and see what's up.

Spring Lake, N.C. — Hours after a Fort Bragg soldier returned from Iraq, he was involved in a wreck that killed his wife and left him critically injured, authorities said.
Chief Warrant Officer James Dunn, 36, was driving along Nursery Road north of Spring Lake at about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday when his 2006 Nissan convertible skidded on a curve and slammed into a stand of pine trees, said 1st Sgt. Tim Baldwin, of the state Highway Patrol.
Baldwin estimated that Dunn was traveling at 100 mph before the wreck, which splintered some of the trees and left wreckage strewn along the side of the road.
Gretchen Dunn, 36, wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car. She died at the scene.

Two Princeton Students Injured In Violent Collision With Truck

Two Princeton High students were injured in a horrific crash while headed to school Thursday morning. The wreck happened around 9am on US70-A just east of Pine Level. The Highway Patrol said 18 year-old Christopher Massengill of Selma was headed eastbound in a Chevy Malibu when he ran off the roadway and overcorrected. His car crossed the centerline and while skidding backwards, collided with a westbound tractor-trailer, owned by J.P. Edwards Inc., and driven by Jackie Toler, 48, of Kenly. The impact was so violent, the back half of the car was ripped off, landing in a field. Massengill and his passenger, 18 year-old Ashley Everman of Princeton, were both transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital. Massengill reportedly sustained a possible broken neck and back injuries in the crash and was [IMG]transferred to WakeMed. Everman was treated and released. The two teens had just dropped off a baby at a Pine Level area daycare moments before the crash. Trooper A.K. Carlton said the teen driver was traveling at 65mph in a 55mph zone at the time of the crash, which he blamed on excessive speed. Trooper Carlton said charges are pending. On March 9, Katlyn Bell, a Princeton High senior, died in a tragic accident on Brogden Road near her home. Two other Princeton students have lost their lives in crashes within the past 12 months. Pine Level Fire and Selma EMS responded to Thursday’s wreck.

How about on Cornwallis Rd? I've seen kids going well over the speed limit, passing on a solid yellow line, etc. and most on their cell phones. Very scarey. Cannot understand why in such a hurry; I've also encountered teens driving that way on I-40 between exits 312 and 301.

Isn't the highest rate of accidents due to I95 and that traffic.

Actually do you have anything to back up the "highest rate of illegal Mexicans in the area" and what do you mean by that? What area?

Same with drunk driving rates? Any facts to back any of that up or is this just a rant?

Here's the way I see it. If you raise your kids right then there isn't any reason for you not to trust them. If you doubt your kids, then you should doubt your parenting skills.

I think most accidents arn't because of kids driving. It those skiddish kids who are scared silly. No confidence. Ever riden with someone like that?

EX. When they try to pull out on 42 or something they get nervous and edgy.

There are alot of teens that can drive very well. Better than alot of adults.

According to the police reports, a main reason for the deaths seems to be teens not wearing seatbelts. Is that considered nervous and edgy? To me that's bad parenting because the parents, for the most part, set the example for the seatbelt.

What? Y'all are trying to place the blame for inexperienced teen drivers having accidents on their parents... when the parents aren't even in the vehicles with them? Come on now.

When I had an accident at 17 it WAS NOT my parents' fault that I wasn't watching the road like I should have been. Time to let kids take the blame for some of their actions. Sheesh!

I don't necessarily think it's the parents fault, but I certainly did not agree with Omni's opinion of it being from the kids being nervous and edgy. I don't think the accidents match that statement. To me, most of these accidents have been freak, but lives could possibly have been saved with seatbelts. So, I shout to parents, lead by example. Is it the parents fault? No way. But it is the parents' responsibility to set an example. These parents could have already set the example. Great. I do think the accidents were freak, but I wonder what could have happened with some seatbelts?

I'v never been in an accident where I was the driver. But I always wear my seatbelt. ALWAYS. But I do see those edgy teens, and when they panic it's scary. These cause mainly fender benders. You can't compare the death accidents to what i'm referring to. Sorry for the confusion.

Is this why you will buy your teens souped up dragsters and encourage them to peel rubber because they are going to do it anyway? If they have the means, and mom/dad encourages it I'm sure they will have confidence they need to be accident-free.
