this is from my neighbor that wrote to me, i am going over in the next hour to see how he is and when we can start helping him out, i had no idea he was staying in his car tonite, i thought he was going to his nieces house, there were a few flare ups, but nothing more than a foot of flame , i am going to see if he still is worried about that, i will get some of my neighbors hoses together and hook it to my house and go over and douse it again for him, so then maybe he can get some sleep

My husband (Steve) stopped just a little bit ago because we noticed his car was still there even though it was getting late. He said he was staying the night there because the fire keeps flaring up so he is trying to watch that. Steve brought him a pillow and a couple blankets, a camp chair, and a lantern because he didn't even have a flashlight, he was just stumbling around in the dark trying to see what he was doing. He is planning on sleeping in his car tonight I think.

any help would be great, i am offering to put stuff in my garage until he gets something on his lot to put in, i am looking on CL for any free or cheap trailers, since he said he just needs something small , and again it doesnt sound like he had insurance or money to do all of this, if anyone knows of someone that has a trailer, believe me , it doesnt have to be a nice one, just livable, with all the people that are wanting to help, i figure we can find a way to spruce it up for him lol. i know the economy is taking a toll on everyone, i am not asking for any money at all, i know its hard on people, time would be great, or anything you think that you do not want, would be great, i know he did grab his checkbook, i would set up a fund for him,not sure how to do that, i guess i can go to the bank to find out, since some have asked if he has a fund, but i am not asking for money, i know its hard on everyone right now.

will do, i am going over in a few minutes, i am going to run hoses to his house from mine if that is the reason he is staying there overnight it is too cold to be staying in a car to make sure the fire is out, my neighbors said they will give me thier hoses to make it long enough, its about a half to 3/4ths of an acre to his house

Just got off of the telephone with someone who suggested that we first have someone come in with a backhoe or whatever and move/get rid of most items that they can before we start doing it by hand. Sounds like a plan. I will work the phones later today and tomorrow to see if someone will donate the use of the equipment, labor and disposing of the items. Will update once I arm wrestle someone to give this man all the help needed, just kidding as most everyone would certainly be delighted to help in this situation.

I think after that part is done hands will be needed. Of course, I may find out that hands are needed to help with the equipment portion of removing items.

    Hang tight,
    Sherry

We have a TV we will donate and we have a small utility trailer with low sides that we will donate the use of. We don't have hitches on either vehicle to pull it but Hatteras knows where we live and maybe he would be kind enough to take it over there for us.

As for groups to help out, maybe some of the local churches would be willing to help out. Maybe someone could call C3 since they have so many folks I'm sure they would probably be willing to help.

I hope he contacts the Red Cross in Smithfield. They will issue him a debit card so he can purchase bedding and towels and such.

There is a yellow mobile home near the intersection of 42 and 50. It is between Tri County Tire and Redd's Tires. It's been sitting there a while.

lol, i wonder if the business beside it knows whose it is? tried to find mr. west on his lot 3 diffrent times yesterday, the last time, his dogs were there, if they do not know you, not sure about the one, he started to come after us, but then we were petting his other dog , so he backed off, we know the dogs though, one is nice and one is just really barky, but i would put it past to bite someone, is anyone good with roosters? he has one, i would take care of it till he is back on his feet, but i am going to see about getting it moved closer to my lot, we are not allowed farm animals in our subdivision, so i thought if i could move it right over the property line from my lot to his, i could help with that,i dont want someone, looters whatever to do something to it, its cute, lol. but i dont know a thing about them, plus i have to find Mr.West to see if that would be o.k with him, someone threw a piece of bread in for it, but i would need it moved, i dont know how to hold a rooster or anything. lol. to get the contraption moved. I am going to try to find someone with a dump truck, that would be the best solution, does anyone know someone with one or a front load tractor? is that what they are called? or i am going to try to talk to him about leaving most of that and there are two other spots on his lot to pull a trailer on that would work alot better than where this one was, they are flat surfaces, not too much stuff would have to be moved, but again, it is his call. any ideas on anything, i met hatteras over there, thank you for stopping, as you can see its is alot, i mean alot of work. any help would be greatly appreciated. : ) Terri

My mom works for a Debris Removal company and she is going to talk to her boss about donating the use of her skidsteer (sp?) and dump truck. They do this kind of clean up all the time and the owner is very compassionate. Will let you know if she's in.

wow , that would be great if he would do that, there is just alot, and i cannot stress alot of stuff if he wants to pull another trailer back there, that was one of his stresses was getting something else back there, not to be mean everyone lives diffrent, but Mr.West collected about everything, sort of like a pack rat, which i am not putting him down, they built our houses around him, that is how he chose to live, i am not saying he needs to change his ways, he has been doing this for 60 years, thats his way of life, i am just saying that to get back there alot of stuff needs moved. He is a very nice person, and i dont condone him at all.he just needs some helping hands. : )
