Thank you everyone, Mr. West did come knocking on my door about 2 hours ago and stayed that long, he is very nice, I am glad he came, i havent seen him in a few days, nice to see he is O.K, was talking about getting a pic and shovels and such, i think he is still going through everything, i told him there are people waiting to help out, he is really trying to get water and power to his lot, he is accepting food for his dogs and rooster, and water, even if its in a milk bottle rinsed out well for his dogs and rooster, but he is still in the cleaning up mode, I did tell him about you wanting to build a rooster cage on his lot, he was surprised that someone wanted to do that, he is not one to ask for handouts, but if they are given to him, i think he will take it, he has a very old house, 200+ years old that he has stored some furniture in over the years, that the house did not get touched in the fire, it is unliveable but it is his storage building, i told him to find out what he might need, and maybe i could find it for him, he said he might get a camper on his lot for now, and the red cross is trying to get him a trailer, but he is not sure how long that might be, if anyone knows of any trailers, that are not expensive, please let me know, so i can pass it onto him, he needs some people to lead him into the right path, i think he is not sure which ways he can go, or how to get stuff done, but he does want the electric and water running. I appreciate everything everyone is doing, any suggestions would be great, he seems to be doing a little better, but wants to go through the debris looking for stuff, if it was my house i would want the same thing. Terri
Thanks for the update. I have never gone through anything like this but if he is located in the Town of Clayton city limits would they not need to be called to get power and water back? If he is in County limits wouldn't the same apply? I cannot remember what has been posted in the Thread and I am just throwing out suggestions. I can call whichever place and ask about it, just let me know if I should. I can do it tomorrow. Sherry
Okay I found the rooster. He is a big hansom boy and very friendly. If by chance you talk with Mr West tell him I left a bucket of feed, scratch and water for the rooster. They have lids so the food should not get wet. I will go out in the morning and make him a bigger home. I also bought a feeder and water dispencer so he will only need to get checked once a week. Tell Mr west I will montior the food and keep him supplied so it is one less thing he has to worry about. If all are confussed I used a friends log on fo awhile until mine got activated.
We stopped and visited him the day after it happened and chatted for hours. Very nice man and loves to talk with you. We offered food and help but he was mostly concerened about finding his "stuff". We live in Island Creek also, and are willing to help in any way we can.
Yes, he is mainly into finding whatever he can, i know he appreciates everything , he has told me that each time I stopped to talk to him, he is clearing a part of his lot, not where the fire was, to try to put a trailer on, with the bad weather, i have not seen him, hopefully this weekend he will be out, thank you for the rooster and dog supplies, i know he loves his animals, i think he is trying to get back on his lot ASAP, i would want to as well, there are a few that are helping him clear some stuff, told him if he needs anything to let me know, since he stopped over last week, he does have some furniture in the house that is on his lot, dont know the condition since the house is non livable, and i dont know how long he has stored this stuff, but i told him once he gets his trailer, and figures out what he needs, he can pass it onto us.i will keep you updated, Thank you, Terri
trailer we have got a trailer we used to use for an office it is just a 1 bdrm 1 bath with other living space of course it is old but is still in good condition i work for LKQ and we would be willing to give this to him it would have to be fixed to look like a home again because like i said it was used for an office if anyone thinks he would want this please let me know i can send pictures if you would like also it would have to be moved and im not sure if someone knows of anyplace that would do it or not. we also have someone that could go out and look at the cars he has if he is intrested all we would do is look at them give him a price and no pressure to sell them to us. he could call if he wanted us to pick them up however we would have to know when he wanted our buyer to come out and take a look so he is not trespassing on the mans property. thank you and if you think he might be intrested let me know
Hey Terri, If you get a chance to talk with Mr West Let him know I will be out Friday morning to set Mr Rooster up. You can let him know I drive a small black SUV so he will know it is me. I went out Sunday and put hay down int he metal box and covered him with a tarp. All I could do because I got soak as it was. Any hoo since he maybe setting a trailer up on the other part of his property he may want Mr Roo over there and I am happy to put him were ever he wants. I did see a white older truck there Sunday so he my of been in the other house. He had to be freezing. I will probably be there by 8:30 Thanks Cindy
wow , emismom, that would be great, he is trying to find one right now , he was just at my house for 2 hours tonite talking to me, and he does need a trailer, camper, anything he can run electric to at this point, he wanted me to keep an eye on his lot, a few things have gone missing,, so i told him i would keep an eye out, I can stop over his place tomorrow, and let him know, he would be thrilled, and Cindy, he is very very thankful for what you have done for his rooster, I told him all about you that you even knew what kind of rooster it is. He was overwhelmed, I am going to track him down tomorrow to let him know that you will be past, Thank you so much, every little bit helps, does anyone know anybody that can run electric to his lot? He has a powerpole with a line i guess that got burned with the fire, not sure all of the legalities for him to get it up and going again, anybody know anyone that does this kind of thing?
Won't Progress Energy run a line for him? I believe if they own the grid then they are responsible for bringing it in, but I think he will need to have someone wire up the trailer, I may be wrong but I thought that the utility company handles thier own lines.
I have a lead on a way to move the trailer AND get power connected but I will need to have some info.... Is the trailer a Ball Hitch style or a Fifth Wheel????? and either way, Is it roadworthy??? Condition of Tires Frame etc? I'm working on trying to coordinate a move as we speak!!!!! After it gets to his lot, there are members of my connect group who are willing to donate time to carpentry, etc... I can do some work on getting Plumbing to the trailer. Please post, - If there is anyone else out here who would want to donate thier services. 4042 ers are awesome!!!!!!
i will have to look at it when i get to work in the morning im not sure how it would have to be moved or about the tires it has been in the spot for a long time so im not sure but i will check first thing in the morning to let you know everything
He needs a couple belts with a buckle. We didn't have the right size with a buckle. He's a nice guy and needs assistance.
lol, so your the one about the belt, he told me that last night, lol. he was thrilled with the outpour of people wanting to help, i know he was very please with someone dropping of dog food, the rooster food, and bottled water, i told him if i see him during the day, i would drop off some leftovers for him, or a sandwich, he was thrilled about that, he has been staying on his lot some nights, i think he is just ready to get back. he randomly comes knocking on my door to talk, did it last night, he seems in better spirits, asked me to keep an eye on his lot, noticed a huge extension cord that he used to electric was missing, i guess it didnt get burned up and he noticed it was missing, which i remember seeing it when i went to visit him, one of those big orange ones, and a propane tank, he is worried people are going to look through the fire debris, and he is not done looking through all of it yet, he did want to get a screen type thing that he could shovel the ashes on and he could shake it to sift through all of it. he was telling me of some personal items that are still missing that he is hoping that are still in all of it, i dont blame him, i would do the same, he is clearing a part in front of the old house that is on his lot, he would love to fix that up, but i am not sure if it is fixable, it had a few power outlets in it, but from what he was telling me it would need all new electic in it, he even said, even if it was just the bottom floor of it, but again, it doesnt have plumbing as well, it was where his family lived at years ago, and where him and his mom lived until she died in 2004, i think that was the year he said, but it looks like it is in poor shape, that is why he is looking for a trailer or camper, he just needs some help, if anyone has any water, or leftovers, i know that sounds corny, but i take it he isnt taking time to go and get anything, i told him i will make him a sandwich, need to find my tupperware container that he can use and just give back so i can load him up again. lol. he is a nice guy if anyone stops, he is very grateful for all of the help. he is trying to clear in front of the old house, i am going to see if he needs any help with that spot, : )
The trailer that has been offered to him is very large in size and from what information I've been able to get the trailer would need to be professionally moved and Permits would need to be pulled to put it there. I was also told that he would need some type of foundation to place the trailer on before the county would allow him to place it there. But If anyone out here has a Camper style trailer that could be donated, he could place that on his lot and Progress will run a twist to a pole from which he could pull power from. Other than that My hands are tied right now trying to get him some help. I just lost my job today and am trying to figure out what I'm going to do, but I still want to help out Mr. West.
he had a trailer on his lot, that is one of the things that burned down that night would he have to get a permit even though this is to replace that one,? or to say it is for a temporary living structure, he needs one, i spoke with him tonite, he wants the trailer, he wanted to see who he can go see on Friday or Saturday at Lkq to come and see it, he would love to have it, cant we find someone that might help move the trailer?
browneyedgirl, Please check your PM for the information about electrical service. For all helping, Mr. West's address is listed as Garner, North Carolina. So, utilities, permits, etc. need to go through that area, not Clayton or Smithfield. Sherry
Sorry, Sherry, but the only part of his being in Garner is because the USPS considers us in this area of 40-42 as neither fish, nor fowl nor red meat. We are in the McLemore fire district, in West Johnston County. All permitting, water, etc. goes through JoCo. We are JoCo residents. That's been the teaser idea of incorporating our little slice of heaven. We're JoCo, and only have the Garner part because of the USPS.
I talked to LKQ, about the trailer, does anyone know of the blocks or how to set a trailer up? It needs to be on blocks, i know nothing about trailers, just helping out, lol. He does want the trailer, but for him to get it moved without them pulling the permits, it will be between 400 and 500 dollars, if they pull the permits and have to set it up it will be around 1,750. And yes I agree with you Hatteras, its nuts that we are stuck in the middle with everything, you call one place and and they give you another number because we are not in thier vicinity, I thought we were getting the name of Clevland Oaks?
