Actually due to the parent companies involved Imus should have the ACLU on his side. Think about it. He can actually sue them for discrimination!! MSNBC and CBS both own daughter companies that are record lables. These labels are known for Rappers who use these terms frequently. Ohh it's not the same?? I see because he directed his comments to some basketball players his is different. I don't think so.
Thank you KD - I heard something vaguely on the radio this morning about the ACLU and Imus. My son was talking over it, so I didn't catch the whole thing. I went to the main ACLU website and didn't see anything in SUPPORT for Imus, so I'm assuming that they are not supporting him. But, who the heck am I? Nobody important. I don't know what the ACLU is thinking, I just would think and hope that they would be defending Imus.
Maybe the ACLU has not become involved in the case because a government agency is not taking action against Don Imus. From their own website, their mission is: "We must preserve the protections and the checks and balances in the Constitution against government abuses of power that violate our fundamental values." No government abuses against the Constitution (or Bill of Rights) in the Imus case.
Well with most of the whining and condemnation of the ACLU it is obvious that most don't know what they do.
Grace, Finally had time to look at this more closely. So a bunch of stations, which are non profit, own a non profit company that is funded by another Corporation that is funded by the taxpayers. Wow! Seems like it was set up to employ a bunch of accountants and upper management. While PBS has some admirable programs I am not sure it is the government's job to provide the funding. Give the airwaves back to the private citizens and you will see a change. Ever listened to a podcast?
Oh ...what racist hate mongers you all are. Just listen to yourselves! If it weren't for wonderful people like Reverend Sharpton and Reverend Jackson, people like Imus might be able to get away with littering our airwaves with this hate-speech. Haven't African-Americans suffered enough at the hands of rich white people like Don Imus? Its people like him and Bush and their rich corporate America cronies who are ruining this country. Its time we all learned to appreciate and celebrate our unique cultural diversity. Rap music isn't perfect, but it gives us a means for understanding the deep, complicated struggles of the African American culture, which by the way is a direct result of the racism promoted by our white ancestors. Please join Reverends Jackson and Sharpton in supporting the Democratic party in 2008 and let's "get out the vote"!
he does have quite the speaking style, though, doesn't he? almost hypnotic.... i was also a big fan of "the question is moot"
Republicans dream that these two are campaigning with the Democrats candidate. Had to edit the title as neither can spiritually claim it. I wish someone would get a clue and slash their funding as we all would be better off.
Try using the same words that minorities use. Something has gone horribly awry when one race is allowed to decide what words they can use, but other races can't. Free speech for some but not for others. How "equal".
